Be Anxious For Nothing
Series Biblical Look at Anxiety
Anxiety is an often overlooked sin.
Encompasses the words worry, fear, panic, stress. anxiety.
All of these behaviors express a lack of faith = sin.
WHAT IS ANXIETY:
- Improper reaction to the situation God has placed me in.
- Concern to the point of terror or distress regarding future
uncertainties or possible certainties. - Primarily deals with what may happen in the future, either near or distant.
WHAT ANXIETY IS NOT:
- Normal Stress and Pressure we feel that is God Given
- Some stress or pressure helps us to serve the Lord
- In a positive way motivated by Christlike compassion for the Church and God's people Paul also felt anxiety for others.
LACK OF BIBLICAL REPSONSE:
- Christian solutions often formulaic, anecdotal, or psychological in orientation.
- Bible itself isn't sufficient - needs secular psychological assistance
THINKING BIBLICALLY:
Need to realign thinking and heart to God's Word.
EXPRESSION OF WORRY:
- Worry is a common temptation
- Doubt of God's ability
- Common throughout time
- Minimize by focusing on big things.
DEALING WITH ANXIETY:
- Observe God's care for you
- Believe God's Word
- God commands us to not worry
- God is not just Creator, but Sustainer - creation doesn't worry
- God has already set limit on each life
- Unwise because of promised future
- Be thankful in all things (Philippians)
- Be doer of Word
