Contending for the Faith

Jude explained that he wrote in order to refute the false teaching that God's grace gives believers license to sin. Here "faith" indicates the content of the message taught by the apostles and held in common by all Christians (Galatians 1:23; 1 Timothy 3:9), rather than the personal exercise of faith and trust by the believer. To contend for the faith when it is under attack means more than simply verbally opposing false teachers; it involves a way of life that is faithful to the gospel message (verses 20-23).
