Returning to the book of the
Revelation, chapter four. The book of the Revelation and
the chapter four. And with the word open, let's
unite in prayer. Loving Father, we commit our
time around the table of remembrance today. We better please to confess
our sin and to seek a fresh cleansing. Oh God, and to know our renewed
zeal and vigor for thee, the lap, the place, where we remember
thy suffering and thy death. Bless our ready hearts, we pray
this in Jesus' precious name. Amen. Revelation 4, verse 8. When he had taken the book, the
four beasts and the four and twenty elves were settled down
before the Lamb, having every one of them parts, in golden
vials full of odors, which are the prayers of the saints. And
they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book,
and open the seals thereof, for Thou hast slain. Thou hast named
us to God by Thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue of every
nation, and hast made us unto our God, kings and priests. We
shall reign on the earth. I beheld and heard the voice
of many angels round about the throne and the beasts, The elders
and the number of them is 10,000 times 10,000 and thousands of
thousands. Saying with a loud voice, worthy
is the land that was slain to receive power and riches of wisdom
and strength and honor and glory and blessing. Amen. It doesn't take very many words
to communicate communicate deep and profound news to another
person. Take for example the words, I
love you, or it's over, or I'm leaving, or he's dead, or it's
terminal. You'd have to agree with me that
they are but short statements and yet the ramifications of
them are seismic and long lasting. Around this table of remembrance,
I want to remind you of some three-worded statements that
really encompass what we come to remember at the communion
supper. The first three-worded statement comes from the tree.
It is finished. These are words of completion.
With redemption secured, The Son of God cried from the middle
tree these words of victory, declaring to heaven, earth, and
hell that salvation was now complete, that the work of redemption was
done. And it is this that we come to
remember around the table today, the fact that Christ has done
all that is required for our salvation and that we are resting
our souls on the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. It
is finished. The second free worded statement
is heard at the tomb. He is risen. Matthew 26 verse
six. These are words of jubilation
spoken to the woman who came to the empty tomb. The angels
dispatched by God to earth in jubilation declare that Christ
had risen from the dead. who is no longer under the power
of death. For Christ had triumphed over
death. His death would be the death
of death for the child of God. And we must not miss the importance
of the fact that Christ is risen. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians
15 verse 17, and of Christ be not raised, your faith is vain,
ye are yet in your sins. And so today around the table,
of remembrance, we remember our risen and exalted Savior. The
third, the third set of words, they come to us from not the
tree or the tomb, but from the table. They are the words till
they come. 1 Corinthians 11 verse 36, these
are words of anticipation. Yes, we look back to the death
of our Lord, but we also look forward to his return. We are
living in the last of the last days. And we ask ourselves then,
are we living our lives in the light of the day when Christ
will return to gather his loved ones home? Are we, with anticipation,
looking forward fitting the return of Jesus Christ.
It is finished, words of completion spoken from the tree. He is risen,
words of jubilation spoken at the tomb. Till he come, words
of anticipation that we hear at the table. Thou art worthy. Words of adoration that are spoken
from before the throne. Revelation 4, verse 12. Revelation 4, or 5, sorry, and
the verse number 12. Saying with a loud voice, worthy
is the Lamb. Sorry, it's chapter 4, verse
11. Thou art worthy. O Lord, thou
art worthy. Words, of adoration. Those who are before the throne,
they adore the one who sits upon the throne. They come to find
that he alone is worthy to receive glory and honor and power. I wonder how is our love for
Christ today? No better place to come to have
love for him rekindled than around the table of remembrance. only
three words each time, but each three-word statement conveys
to us some profound and some comforting truth. It is finished. He is risen. Till it come. Thou art worthy. May our souls
rejoice in these truths even this afternoon. The apostle Paul said, for I
have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you.
The Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took
bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,
take, eat. This is my body, which is broken
for you. This do in remembrance of me. Some brother, please do
this with full acquaintance. Lord, we just did come before
Thee on the knee. Lord, thank Thee indeed that
everything You said and done glorified the Father. Everything was as it should have
been. Every step You took, every move
You made, It was in that obedience to the Father's will. And we pray, Lord, that each
and every one of us would set our foot forward in the path
of righteousness. That we would not set our foot
aside to bypass men. It's so easy to do. So, so easy
to do. Help us to be those who, Lord,
submit Lord, it is what you want us
to do, Lord, whether it be hard or easy. And Lord, help us to
be those people that you need us to be in the ways that lie
ahead, Lord. And we know that there are hard
days. We know for every one of us there's
testing day to day and days from Lord, days go over testing. I've heard that. And Lord we
pray that thou would give us all that grace and strength Lord
to follow thee. to be set, and our Lord set for
the defence of the gospel, and our Lord God to stand foreswear
from the truths of thy word. Lord, undertake for us, guide
us, and may Lord even our hearts rejoice, and the things of the
Lord, rejoice in the word of God, may we be satisfied with
that, which thou hast provided for us, for Christ's sake. Amen. that which cleanses our sin and
brings us into fellowship with God again. So brother, pray for
the wine, the anthem, the precious blood of our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. Heavenly Father, as we read on
Thy holy presence, we do thank Thee again for Thy word to our
hearts today. Truly, Lord, the lines have fallen
to us in present days. We are thankful again for a faithful
servant today to deliver Thy word to each one of our hearts.
We would just pray again, Lord, that You would open our hearts
now and our minds, Lord, to receive Thy word as a word from the Lord. And we thank you again that we
can gather in this fashion around the communion table. Thank you
again for the people, Lord, that are found here. And we thank
you most of all for what the wine represents. We know, Lord,
as we have heard from thy word this morning, that we were born
on a tree. Lord, we had a sin that had to
be removed. Born on sin, shapen on a neck. That's what thy word declares
us. And Lord, we thank you again for your great provision for
us. Lord, we thank you again for that cleansing agent that
you submitted to us. As we read there even in Romans
1, speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ, you said, whom God has
set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to
deter his righteousness for the forgiveness of sins. How we thank
you that the blood of Christ brings about forgiveness of sins. That first night, Lord, the first
communion, you took the wine and you said, this represents
my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the
remission of sins. Again, we thank you. It's the
blood of Christ and only the blood of Christ that can remove
our sins. So, Lord, we want to acknowledge
that today. We want to thank you afresh.
We want to thank the Lord for the great love you have for us,
Lord, to go to the cross. While that blood flowed in your
veins, Lord, even though it was sinless blood, it was indestructible
blood, Lord, until it was shed, it could not be a saving blood.
And Lord, we thank you again, even again as we read in that
word that Christ so loved us that he gave himself to be an
offering and a sacrifice unto God. for a sweet-smelling saviour. So Lord, we want to again just
thank the Lord for enduring the cross for us, for allowing thy
precious blood to be shed. And Lord, we thank you again
that, Lord, we will always keep the blood of Christ as that which
sanctifies each one of us. And Lord, we pray again, as we
continue on in this life, that you'll help us ever to live in
the shadow of the cross. Accept our thanks now for this
wine, and for all that it represents to us, even as we partake of
it. Let us ponder on these great
truths. For it's in Jesus' name we ask it. Amen. Be sure the Lord stays with us
until we come. Amen. Let's pray. Our loving Father, love us, and because of that we love thee.
Oh, to love thee more with an ardent love, a zealous love,
a jealous love, allowing no other loves into our lives. Oh, give us all hearts and we may serve thee as we ought.
Think of the passion of our Saviour. We mourn the lack of our passion. We see the giving of himself
entirely to the Father's will and we see how reluctant O God, Mrs Gillespie's heart
and her family and the young family have I served him as he
preaches even now.
