The High Cost of Truth

Too proud to appear weak in front of his party guests, Herod succumbs to the evil plot of his wife and step-daughter and verse 27 says, "immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John's head. He went and beheaded him in the prison and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother." The brutal deed was done – John the Baptist, this fearless prophet who called out the sin of Galilee's ruler, was finally dead and gone. You see friends, taking a public stand for truth is a dangerous thing. God's prophets have always been persecuted. They've been mocked, imprisoned, tortured, stoned, murdered, and Hebrews 11:37 says some were even sawn in half. This is the high cost of truth.
