Blinded and Bloated

17

Pride is a powerful tool in our adversary's arsenal. It blinds us to our own spiritual needs, to our vulnerability to sin, and to the needs of others around us. But it also blinds us to the source of blessings in our lives. We proudly take credit for our successes and prosperity, rather than giving the glory to God. But losing sight of God's blessings begins the downward spiral of idolatry and immorality. Our adversary does not care who gets the credit just as long as it is not God. But pride not only blinds, it bloats us. It puffs us up, inflates us. In pride, we think that we are above God's laws. They might apply to everyone else, but not us. In pride, we think that we have somehow arrived spiritually, that we are spiritual mature, the finished product rather than in process. And in pride, we think we are all important in God's work! The antidote to pride is simply this: Humble yourself in the sight of the LORD that He my exalt you in His time.
