The Graduate's Treasure: Seeking the Kingdom of God

22

This month all over America young men and women are facing the future. They will be graduating from high school and college. There is a mixture of fear and hope, anxiousness and excitement. They are on the brink of their future; they are dreaming of happiness: treasure, riches, honor, happy relationships, beautiful homes (furnished and luxurious), fancy cars, fast cars. They are considering at this time what they will do with the rest of their lives and what they will pursue the rest of their lives to make all that a reality.
Is that where the true riches are to be found? Is that what graduates should pursue? But there are riches and wealth to be sought. There is treasure to be found. There is a precious pearl beyond all price for you to pursue. It is the Kingdom of Heaven, the things of God and the life that is found in Christ.
While these graduates plan and dream and seek and work for the treasure of the world, they unknowingly tread upon true treasure. Unknowingly walk beside and miss the pear of greatest price. And few will be those who find it.
Jesus calls his disciples to seek, sell, and “buy” the treasure of the Kingdom of God; he calls all men to reconsider the treasures they've been seeking, and consider that compared to the kingdom, those “treasures” should be sold to have true treasure.
