Worship - Its Companions Pt 2 [The Sabbath day]

There is one final aspect of worship to consider. It is again within the topic of companions/helps for worship.

God has ordained two companions/helps to assist us in worshipping Him in the beauty of holiness. Marred by sin and spiritual infirmity we are in great need of all the help we can receive. Thankfully God in His mercy and grace has given us certain 'helps' that are to be viewed as the companions of worship to assist us.

These companions or 'helps' are of two sorts:
[1] Firstly, there are the sacraments which have been instituted by the Lord Himself to assist us in worshipping Him. We considered this aspect last Lord's day. There are two New Testament sacraments, namely, baptism and the Lord's supper.
[2] Secondly, there is the sabbath day. Again something specifically instituted by the Lord to assist His earthly creatures in the worship of His holy Name. There is one day in seven commissioned by the Lord, which is to be set aside for the worship of God and for nothing else. It is a day which is to belong, in its entirety, to God.

We come this morning to consider the second of these companions and the last of these studies on the subject of worship. Consider the sabbath day as a companion.
