Wilt Thou Know, O Vain Man?

74

Is our faith genuine, thriving, growing stronger? We must have some evidence of growth, or we should examine ourselves to see whether we are in the faith.

"A man may say." Man has always held his achievements in high esteem. One can go far with a vain profession, but the flesh can only go so far. As we consider the parables, and the life of Judas, we see examples of vain professors.

Have the things of Christ grown dearer to us than when we first believed?

"Wilt thou know?" Are you willing to be shown? Here we find reasoning, "Wilt thou know?", with sharp reproof, "O vain man." This should characterize preaching, spoken with authority. The "vain man" is empty, and those who are empty make the loudest noise.

We need grace to keep our own hearts.
