Do you know what it means to Hallow the Name of God?
Do you blaspheme God's name without even considering what it means to stand in front of the God you are speaking lowly of?
Do you know who God is according to His Names and attributes?
Listen along and learn to worship God and exalt His great Name.
God had revealed Himself as loving and kind and slow to anger and wrath.
He was just, and forgiving, longsuffering and yet just.
He desired obedience and not just vain sacrifice.
Yet the people resented being forced to offer sacrifices to God. And they would not honor Him in Spirit and in Truth. Even after He brought them out of Egypt, and revealed Himself to them. And so the people Blasphemed God in every way.
At the burning bush, God introduces Himself to Moses. He proclaimed I Am That I AM. WHWH in Hebrew is called The Tetragrammaton which literally means the four letters. It consists of four Hebrew letters: Yodh, Heh, Waw, and then Heh repeated. (Some say YHVH)
Some versions of the Bible translate the Tetragrammaton as “Yahweh” or “Jehovah”; most translate it as “LORD” (all capital letters).
So God warns the people about Blasphemy In Exodus 20:7, and the people immediately blasphemed God.
To know what it means to Hallow God’s Name you must first know what it means to take His name in Vain, known as blasphemy.
