Growing Awareness of Vicarious Atonement

Ch 53:4-6 taken together form the next section of this wonderful depiction of the sufferings of Jehovah's Servant.

These three verses deal with the sublime truth of vicarious atonement. Verse 4 sets before us a growing awareness of this doctrine and v5 gives us the nature of vicarious atonement. Reference is also made in Isa 53:11&12 to this doctrine.

The doctrine of vicarious atonement lies at the very heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the principal that the whole work of redemption is built upon. A New Testament text that sums up this doctrine is 2 Cor 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Alongside the deity of Jesus Christ there is no doctrine that is more opposed than vicarious atonement. Modernists, Liberals, atheists, and every false cult rail against this doctrine.

Rail against it they may, the Word of God clearly teaches this doctrine and makes it the basis for salvation.
