I: THE ERRONEOUS EXTREMES
Their slogan: "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman."

• Husbands and wives: stop being physically intimate (1-7).

• Single people, widows, widowers: don’t get married (8-9).

• Married people who couldn’t live together without intimacy: get a divorce (10-11).

• Those with an unbelieving spouse: get a divorce (12-16).

II: THE BIBLICAL RESPONSE

• Husbands and wives: be physically intimate! (1-7)

• Single people, widows, widowers: Get married if you don’t have the gift of celibacy! (8-9)

• Married people who couldn’t live together without intimacy: Do not get a divorce! (10-11).

• Those with an unbelieving spouse: Do not leave them! (12-16).

III: THE RELEVANCE

• Warns of our tendency to formulate unbiblical solutions to real problems.

• Fulfillment can be found in marriage.

• Calls us to selflessness in the marital relationship.

• Fulfillment can be found in singleness.

• Gives great encouragement to those with unbelieving spouses.
