Proverbs 19.12 says, The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favor is as dew upon the grass. Getting on the wrong side of the king's wrath is a scary proposition, as we discussed in the previous devotional, but the ideal is that only the wicked and lawbreakers should have to fear such wrath. When God's will plays out, the law-abiding live under the rule of a just king and just government. And when they do, they live under his favor, and the king's favor is as dew upon the grass. Now, those who don't farm or spend a lot of time outdoors may not appreciate this description, but dew upon the grass is a great thing for those who do understand it. The farmer sees dew on the grass and knows that we're not in a drought. He knows his crops are waking up to sunlight with a fresh spray of moisture provided by God's built-in sprinkler system. I worked on a farm one summer when I was 15 years old, and I remember how nice it was to start work at sunup, even though getting out of bed was not easy, and to have a cool morning with the dew on the kale and the corn stalks. We knew that within an hour or two it would start to heat up and would even feel like a steam bath for a while, but that morning dew was something we looked forward to when we went out into the crops every morning. And those who, just like being outdoors, love the dew in the morning because they know things are going to be nice and green and fresh. The flowers will be in bloom and healthy during the time of year when there is dew on the grass in the morning. And that's the imagery being painted for us in this proverb when it speaks of the king and says his favor is as dew upon the grass. And when King Jesus returns to set up his kingdom, It will be a time when the earth will be restored to the conditions described in the Garden of Eden before the fall, before sin put this world in a condition where drought and famine persist. Revelation 21, two through four tells us, And I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away. That's just a small sample. of what awaits those who have repented toward God with faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ, believing on his gospel and being saved from sin, death, and hell. We will forever be in the favor of the King. And 1 Corinthians 2.9 tells us, but as it is written, I hath not seen E-y-e nor ear heard Neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love him We are going to live in the King's favor and that expression it'll be as dew upon the grass that feeling that sense that you have I Can't wait for those mornings in the kingdom. I living permanently in his favor and experiencing the dew upon the grass in both a literal and a metaphorical sense every morning and really throughout every day. And it's as the Lord's model prayer ends in Matthew 16, 13, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. That's what we have to look forward to, but we can experience that now. We can have that peace. We can have the sense of His favor as He has bestowed forgiveness for all who will come to Him through Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And He is a wonderful Savior.
