Alright, if you have your Bibles,
turn over to Matthew chapter 6, Matthew chapter 6 this evening,
and as you're turning there, let me ask this question. Does
anyone here ever overanalyze things? We got some people overanalyze. Does anybody here ever worry
about whatever other people think about them? Go ahead and raise
your hand, we all do. And does anybody ever worry about
tomorrow? Anybody ever have a problem with
worrying at all? Does anybody here never worry? Everybody,
I think if we're truthful, everybody here worries on occasion, right?
And if you say you do not worry, next week we're talking about
lying. But worry, and we certainly all have an issue with worry,
and I don't know about you, but I like to overanalyze things
sometimes. I like to think about it, and
think about it, and think about it until I figure it out. What
I figured out is totally not what's going on, but we do have
issues with that on occasion. And so tonight, I want to look
at Matthew chapter 6, and I want to talk about winning the war
against worrying. And against worrying. Matthew
chapter 6. Look, if you will, at verse 25.
Matthew chapter 26, verse 25. The Bible says this, Therefore
I say unto you, Take no thought for your life. What ye shall
eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body what ye shall
put on, is not the life more than meat and the body than raiment. Behold the fowls of the air,
for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns,
yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not much better
than they? Which of you, by taking thought,
can add one cubit unto a stature? And why take ye thought for raiment,
considering the lilies of the field? How they grow, they toil
not, neither do they spin. Yet I say unto you, that even
Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore, if God so clothed the grass of the field, which
today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much
more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought,
saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or wherewithal
shall we be clothed? For after all these things do
the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knoweth
that ye have need of all these things, but seek ye first the
kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be
added unto you. Take therefore no thought for
the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of
itself. sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." I don't
know about you, but I think all of us, if we are honest with
ourselves, we oftentimes find ourselves worrying. And by the way, all you do is
turn on the news, and if you listen to the news for very long,
you're going to worry. And it's unbelievable how many
negative things are going on in our world today, and oftentimes
we find ourselves enamored. And oftentimes we find our attention
drawn to those things which are negative and we catch ourselves
in an attitude of worry. And we worry about financial
things, we worry about the state of this country, we worry about
our family, we worry about our health, and before long we catch
ourselves and all we're doing is we're worrying. And we come
to an interesting passage of scripture. We'll look at it this
evening a little bit. But how can we win the war against
worrying? I think the Lord gives us some
answers here tonight. Let's ask Him to bless. Father, I pray
just bless this time that we have. I pray that you would speak to
our hearts. I pray that we could gather some things tonight that
will help us as we live for you. And Lord, we live in some very
exciting times and oftentimes it's easy for us to worry, for
us to overanalyze. It's easy for us to get into
a state where we're just ineffective because our thoughts are on things
that we really cannot control. I pray tonight as we look at
this passage that you would speak to our hearts. I pray that we could
walk out tonight and get back to the place where our eyes are
not on our problems and the situations of this life, but rather our
eyes are on you. I pray you'd bless and we'll
thank you so much for it. In Jesus' name, amen. this week of another pastor who
was traveling and he was preaching in a different location and he
was preaching in a church in Ohio, believe it or not. And
he thought he had done quite a well, a very good job and thought
he had preached a pretty good sermon. And so as the service
ended, he walked to the back doors and he was greeting people
as they left the church. And as he was greeting people,
he received some interesting replies. He received one compliment
after the other. And he was pretty proud of himself
until an older gentleman walked up and he commented with this,
he said this, he said, he looked at the preacher in his eyes,
he said, you preached too long. He thought, well, that's not
nice. And it concerned him just a little bit because everyone
else was giving him positive feedback about the message. And
little did he know that as he was greeting other people that
this same older gentleman got back in line, walked up to him
again, and next time when he looked at the pastor, he looked
at him in the eyes and he said this. He didn't preach loud enough.
And now the preacher was getting a little upset and getting a
little concerned about things. And so he watched this older
gentleman and lo and behold, would you believe it, he watched
it as this gentleman got back in line again. And the gentleman
walked up after a few people had greeted him and this time
he said this, he said, the words you used were too big. And finally the fella had had
just about enough and so he walked up to one of the deacons that
was there and he said, hey, do you know that guy over there?
And the deacon looked at him and he said this, he said, oh,
don't pay attention to him, he just goes around repeating everything
else that he hears. All of us have worries, do we
not? And by the way, your worries are not necessarily my worries.
And my worries aren't necessarily your worries, but the truth is
this, we all have worries. We all have concerns. We'll go
home tonight and there'll be things that will be on our mind,
there'll be things that we will be thinking about, things that
we said, interactions that we had with other people, and those
things will be on our mind and oftentimes as we begin to analyze
these things, as we begin to think about these things, we
start to worry. There may be people here tonight
that may have some doctor's appointments this week and not exactly sure
what the doctor may say. And as we are anticipating the
doctor's words, we begin to worry. Some may be here tonight and
have financial issues or financial matters. Not sure how you're
going to cover this situation or how you're going to take care
of that bill and how you're going to put food on the table. And
as you begin to think about these things, you begin to worry. There was an old sea captain
who was quizzing a few of his new crew members to see how they
would do at sea and what steps they would take if there was
a storm that was to arise. And so he walked up to a young
man and he said this, he said, young man, if there was a storm
that arose on the starboard, what would you do? And he said,
well, He said, Captain, I would throw out an anchor. And the
captain said, that's great, he said this, but he said, what
if another storm was to rise up, what would you do? And the
young man thought for a second and he said this, he said, I
would throw out an anchor. And the fellow said, what about
if another storm arose and it was a giant storm, what would
you do? And the young man said, I would throw out another anchor.
And finally the captain said this, he said, where are you
getting all the anchors? To which the young man replied,
I'm getting them from the same place that you're getting all
the storms. And the truth is that the Bible tells us that
life will be full of storms. In fact, as we go through the
Word of God, there's been many great men and there's been many
great women who have faced storms in the Bible. But the one thing
the Bible tells us is this, when it comes to the storms of life,
that we need not, or that we should not, worry. Psalm chapter 55 and verse 22,
the Bible says, I don't know about you, but I like that. Over in Psalm chapter 62, the
Bible says, God is a refuge to us, then he uses this word,
he says, Selah. That word Selah means this, it
means to stop, to ponder, and to think about that. That's what
that word Selah means, that God's there for us. And so, stop and
think about that. Every problem that you have in
life, can I tell you something, God already knows about it. Every
issue, every situation that may arise this week, God has already
been there. God already knows the situation. God already knows the problem.
God already knows what someone may have said about you. And
so, we as individuals need to ponder this thought that God
is our refuge. He is our strength in all times. Philippians chapter 4, the Bible
says, be careful for nothing, but in everything, by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known
unto God. I'll tell you something, that's
where I'm guilty sometimes. I have a problem, I have a situation,
and I'll be honest with you, sometimes it seems like the last
person I go to is God. I go to somebody else, I try
to take care of the issue, I try to take care of the problem,
I try to take care of the storm, or the worry, or the problem
in my own strength, and I don't know about you, but every time
I try to do it in my own strength, I just make things worse. But
the Bible says that we are to go to God. 1 Peter 5, verse 7,
the Bible says, casting all your care upon Him, get this now,
He cares about you. I don't know about you, but God
cares about you. He cares about me. He cares about
my problems. He cares about my situation,
whether it be financial, whether it be health-related, whether
it be whatever it may be, God cares about me. Have you ever
told somebody a problem that you're having, and you could
tell they don't care about it? You tell them what the situation
is, you tell them what the problem is, and then they start to talk
about the problem, and it's not even the problem you were talking
about. And you think to yourself, this person's not even listening.
This person doesn't care. Can I tell you something? When
you go to God, He does care. He cares about you. And the truth
is that worry is a worthless reaction to my problems. And
get that now. Worry is a worthless reaction
to my problems. One person said this, worry is
like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do,
but it doesn't get you anywhere. And that is so true. So often
we find ourselves worrying, and our mind is just concentrated
on a certain issue, and as a result of that, we become ineffective,
whether it be in our Christian life, or whether it be in our
family life, all because of worry. And the simple thing is this,
worry not only doesn't change what you are facing, it just
makes everything you face a lot worse. Corrie Ten Boom said this
in her book, she said, In fact, as we read these verses tonight,
we see that worry is not just a weakness, but get this now,
worry can be wickedness. Worry is not just a weakness.
Well, you know what? I just have a problem with worry. Can I raise
my hand? I oftentimes catch myself worrying. I don't do it all the time, but
there are times that I start to worry about this. I become
concerned about that. And when I get to the place where
I'm so concentrated on a problem, on a worry, on a storm, on a
situation, you know what I'm doing? I'm saying that God's
not big enough to take care of my problem. That God's not good
enough, that God's not gracious enough, that God's not loving
enough to care about me, to care about my situation. And as a
result of that, we forget that worry is not just a weakness,
but worry is a wickedness because we take our faith in what God
can do in our problem. Now we have a lot of things that
are going on in our world today. But can I tell you this evening
that we do not need to worry. Now you say, that's easier said
than done. I understand that. It's easy to say, don't worry.
But when the doctor calls us up, it's easy to worry. It's
easy to say, don't worry about a financial situation. But when
you're in that financial situation, it's easy to worry. But the Bible
says that we should not worry. And we see several reasons why. Look, if you will, at chapter
6 here, verse 25. We see, first of all, we have
to recognize the reason for our worry. There are several reasons. Look at chapter 6, verse 25.
The Bible says this, Now we see the first thing that people worry
about is they worry about food. I don't know about
you, but one of the things that interested me in the last few
years is this, how quickly our food can be shortened. I remember
you go back before this COVID situation, whatever it was, I
didn't think anything of going to the grocery store and food
was there. And all of a sudden here this thing hit. I remember,
and maybe you've done the same thing, standing in line with
a mask on and around a hundred people hoping that they have
enough chicken coming out in a box so that I can grab some.
I wasn't about to starve. But all of a sudden I started
to think about this just a little bit. And sometimes we see that
people worry about food supplies. And certainly we need to be careful
about that. Then we see not only do people
worry about food, but they worry about fashion. In verse 28, the
Bible says this, it says, You know, if God can take care of
a fading flower, He can certainly take care of us. One of the things that is wonderful,
and I think about this the last couple of days, my mind has been
concentrating on this Boundary Waters trip. And I've been out
trying to get food for all these people, and I look at these men,
I think to myself, oh, there's a lot of food, I've got to have
a lot of food here. They're going to eat a lot. But one of the
things that I like about that, and even yesterday as we were
traveling to Defiance for Ellie's soccer game, was, man, I'll tell
you, we live in a beautiful, beautiful earth. And they go
up to the boundary waters, we're gonna see beautiful, beautiful
things, and you see how God put everything together and how God
cares about things. Can I tell you something, Knight?
God cares about us. If God cares about a fading flower,
certainly cares about us. Not only do you see that in verse
27, not only do people care about fashion, and people care about
food, but people care about fitness. You know, he's probably not talking
about worrying and making oneself taller. Look at verse 27, the
Bible says this, it says, When I was younger, I wanted to do
that, but it never was going to happen. But that word stature is probably
referring to the length of life. You know, I'm not against eating
right. I think we should eat right,
and we should exercise, and we should do those things. But can
I tell you something? Unless the Lord returns, all
of us here are going to die someday. Hebrews 9, verse 27, the Bible
says that we have an appointment with death. But we don't have
to worry about that. Not only does he talk about fashion
and fitness and talk about food, but get this, he talks about
the future over in verse 34. He says this, So many people
like to borrow trouble from tomorrow. My wife has reminded me of that
on occasion. All you're doing is borrowing
trouble from tomorrow. So often we like to pull tomorrow's
clouds over today's sunshine. So many people, you know, tomorrow
this might happen. Hey, God has given us a day to
live for. Don't be worried about the future.
Can I tell you something? God's got it all under control.
He's not lost control of things. I know sometimes you look at
the news, you go, what in the world is happening? And you see
sin being paraded down the streets, and you see foolish things happening
in our government. Can I tell you something? God's
got it all figured out still. God's not lost control of this
thing. I read a study one time, it said
this. They said the average person, talking about the average person
that worries, they said 40% of what people worry about, get
this now, never happens at all. 30% of what people worry about has
already happened in the past. He said this, there's, and by
the way, there's nothing you do about the past. They said
12% of what people worry about is criticism. You know, what
people say about you. Well, can I tell you something?
Most of the time, that's untrue anyways. And then they said this,
10% of worry is about health. And by the way, when you worry
about your health, you make things worse. You don't make things
better. And so if you add all this together,
it's 92%. That means that 8% are real problems. So most of
the times, we worry about things we can do absolutely nothing
about. So worry is truthfully a futile
thing. But can I tell you something, when something arises tomorrow,
we'll start to worry. So we see the reasons for worry,
not only that, but look at the, we need to remember the ruin
that comes with worry. Look at verse 27. The Bible says,
which of you, by taking thought, can add one cubit unto his stature? You know the truthful thing,
the only thing that we can say about worry is this, is that worry is useless.
It's useless. Worry is never dry to tears,
you know that? Worry has never lifted a burden. Worry has never solved a problem. It is said that there are two
things that we should never worry about. Those things that we can
do something about. And the other thing that we should
never worry about is that which we can do nothing about. There's
a little poem that goes something like this. For every evil under
the sun, there is a cure or there is none. If there be one, seek
it till you find it. If there be none, never mind
it. So the truth is that worry is
useless and really, if we're honest with ourselves, worry
is harmful. It's harmful to us. Worry is harmful. Worry hurts
us physically. Worry hurts us spiritually. Worry hurts us emotionally. Have you ever been there before?
You know, something comes up, and here you are, and you're
sitting down, and you're worrying about something, and your heart
rates up, and your mind's not on the things of God, your mind's
not on your family, and your mind is on that problem, and
the truth is this. Most times, there's nothing you
do about it. But oftentimes, all we do is worry. And remember
that worry is not only, we get to the place where we forget
that God is in control of things. God knows what's going on in
our life, and for us, we need to get to the place where we
just trust Him. Not worry, but trust. Worry is harmful to us. Get this now, worry is harmful
to others. I don't know about you, but every
time I look at the news, it's doom and gloom. Have you noticed
that? It's doom and gloom. Every once in a while I'll go
out to my house there and I'll be working. I'll put the news on, I'm listening
to the news. And you give me about an hour
and I'm depressed. And I catch myself thinking,
I can't believe that guy's doing that. I can't believe this is
going on over here. And I'll tell you something,
worry is harmful to others. It's doom and gloom. The world
is coming to an end. That's what we think oftentimes.
But can I tell you something, God's got everything under control. You ever been in a room somewhere
and somebody comes up and you go, oh boy, here we go. I remember years and years ago,
there was a fellow and every time I'd come to church, he'd
come in there and I'll tell you something, he'd walk up there
and for the next 15, 20 minutes, he'd tell you about how bad things
were. and he's worried about this, and he's worried about
that. And I'd walk away from him, and I'll tell you something,
I would be depressed. I'd be like, oh, my wife, what's wrong
with you? Oh, I don't know, it's just,
things are terrible. Things are, I don't know what
I'm going to do. You know what I found out? I just got, he'd
walk into the room, I just got to get away from him. Because
everything was worry, worry about this, and worry about that. And
I'll tell you something, worry is harmful to us. Worry is harmful
to other people. Worry hurts us. Worry hurts others. Get this, worry is a wound to
the heart of God. Look at verse 30 of chapter 26.
The Bible says this, Wherefore, if God so clothed the grass of
the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven,
shall he not much more clothe you? Get this now, O ye of little
faith. When we start to worry, we're
insulting God for who He is. God's got everything under control. God cares about us. And when
we find ourselves sitting on a couch somewhere, worried about
this, we're saying, hey, God doesn't care and God is not in
charge. We get to the place where we
almost point a finger at God and say Romans chapter 8 verse
28 is not true. Because the Bible says that we
know all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are called according to His purpose. Can I tell you
something? Everything that happens, happens
according to His purpose. God's got a plan for things.
I don't know about you, but sometimes I don't make very good plans.
Sometimes I'm scatterbrained. Anybody here get scatterbrained
sometimes? Scatterbrained. You know, someone comes up and
says something, give me about two minutes, I'll forget about
it. And I don't know if that's a good thing, a curse or a blessing,
I'm not sure. But can I tell you something?
God's got it all figured out. God's not scatterbrained. God's
got everything under control. And we as individuals realize
that everything that happens in our life is for our good,
it is for His glory. All things work together for
good to them that love God and to them that are called according
to His purpose. And so when we start to worry, when we start
to complain, when we start to murmur, we're almost saying God,
Romans chapter 8 verse 28, just is not true. So we need to worry,
we need to win the war of worry. We need to recognize the reasons
for worry. We need to remember the ruin
that will happen because of worry. Very quickly, look at this, we
have to realize the remedy for worry. Look at verse 32. The Bible says, So how do I win
the war against worry? How do I get to the place when
something comes into my life that I don't start worrying? Can I give you a real simple
answer? Trust in the Lord. Trust in the Lord. Now about
you, but that's easier said than done sometimes. When the doctor
calls, when the bank calls, when something happens, our automatic
response is this, ah, what am I going to do? But can I encourage
you with this? When something comes in your
life, trust in God. Trust the Lord. Can you believe
this? We have a Heavenly Father that
cares about us. I don't know about you, but that's
special to me. Little old Nate Starr in Finley,
Ohio, our Heavenly Father cares about me. He cares about what
I may be going through. He cares about my problems. He
cares about my needs. Our Heavenly Father cares about
us. You think if He cares about a
bird, He cares about us? If He knows the hairs of our
head, I know for some that's not as hard as others, but If
He knows the hairs of our head, do you think He cares about us?
Matthew chapter 10, the Bible speaking in verse 29, it says
this, Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing, and one of them
shall not fall on the ground without your father? But the
very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not, therefore,
ye are more value than many sparrows. Man, if God cares about the birds,
He cares about us. I love this little poem that
goes something like this. Said the robin to the sparrow, I would
surely like to know why these anxious human beings rush about
and worry so. Said the sparrow to the robin,
I think it must be that they have no heavenly father such
as watches you and me. If God's watching the sparrows,
if God knows about the birds, then He knows about us. We're certainly more important
than the sparrows. There's a little song, I don't
know if we sing it here or not, but I like the little song. It
goes something like this, With Christ in the vessel, I can smile
at the storm. Smile at the storm. Smile at
the storm. With Christ in the vessel, I
can smile at the storm as we go sailing on. One of the things
that I've discovered about life is this. We will have problems. We will have storms. I don't
know about you, one of the things that makes me nervous is when
everything's going okay. I don't know about you. You get to the place, you're
like, man, everything's going great. And that my very next
thought is this, oh, something's about to happen. Something's
going to happen. You may be here today and you're
going through a storm. You may be going, you have an issue,
you may have a problem. Can I tell you today, with Christ
in the vessel, you can smile at that storm. Why? Because He cares about us. And so when that storm comes,
when that worry comes, when we want to worry, when we want to
fret, when we start to get anxious, can I tell you something? It's
so important that we trust in the Lord. Don't get to the place
where you trust in yourself or trust in the doctors. Trust in
the Lord. The second thing is this. We
need to put first things first. Let's be honest, oftentimes the
reason that we worry is because our eyes aren't us. Is anybody
else guilty of that? I gotta be careful. Sometimes
I like to complain if I'm not comfortable. I don't care if
everybody else is comfortable, I wanna be comfortable. And so,
oftentimes, we get to the place where our eyes get off the Lord
Jesus Christ, and our eyes get on us, and because our eyes get
on us, we start to fret, and we start to worry. So how do
you get rid of worry? Put first things first. What does the Bible say? It says
this, Seek ye first the kingdom of God. Don't seek your desires
first, don't seek your pleasures first. The Bible says in verse
33, seek ye first the kingdom of God. And one of the reasons
why we worry so much is this, that we seek our things first
and we seek God's things second. The Lord's supposed to be preeminent
in our lives. Colossians chapter 1 verse 18, the Bible says that
in all things He might have what? The preeminence. And so I get
to the place as an individual, as a Christian, that I realize,
as I read the Word of God, that it's not, this life is not about
me, but it's about the Lord Jesus Christ. And I'm to seek first
the Kingdom of God. Not my desires, not what I want,
not what I feel I deserve, but I need to seek first the Kingdom
of God. And you know what? When I get to that place where
I realize that it's all about the Lord Jesus Christ, my worry
starts to fade away. Because it's not about me. It's
not about my problems. It's not about my storms. It's
about the Lord Jesus Christ. We are to seek Him first. We're
to put the Lord first. Let Him take care of things.
So how do I get rid of worry? Trust in the Lord. How do I get
rid of worry? Put first things first. How do I get rid of worry? Don't
borrow trouble. Look if you will at verse 34.
The Bible says, When you worry about tomorrow, what you're doing
is this, you're borrowing trouble. One person said this, they said, on borrowed trouble. One person said this, if you
pull tomorrow's clouds over today's sunshine, you mess things up. Because God gives us strength
for today. Deuteronomy chapter 33, the Bible
says, And as thy days, so shall thy strength be. And so worry
will bury the blessings of today. You say, well, that's easier
said than done. I know it is. But if you're like me, it's easy.
You know what? I got this going on tomorrow. And before long,
we're concentrating on tomorrow and we're borrowing from tomorrow's
trouble. Hey, God has given us today.
None of us here are guaranteed tomorrow. God has given us today
to live for Him. And so it's for us to put Him
first, not to put ourselves, not to put our worries and our
concerns, but to seek ye first the kingdom of God today. Worry causes us to borrow tomorrow's
trouble. Worry causes us to lose strength
that is needed for tomorrow. Has anybody here ever worried
all night? If you're a human being, you
probably have. Maybe not a teenager, but you get to be an adult, you
do. You're up all night, your mind's thinking, your mind's
roaming, you're not sure if it's the cup of coffee you had, you
shouldn't have had at 10 o'clock at night, or if it's that concern,
or it's something that somebody said, or it's a problem that
you might have, and before long, we find ourselves up all night,
and our next day is wasted. Hey, worry. causes us to lose
strength that is needed for tomorrow. Job chapter 3, the Bible says,
I heard a story about a lady, for several years there was a
woman who had trouble getting to sleep at night because she
feared burglars. And so she could sleep. And one night, her husband heard
a noise downstairs in the house. And so he went downstairs to
investigate. And when he got downstairs, would
you believe it? He came face to face with a burglar. And he looked at the burglar
and he said this. He said, good evening. I am so pleased to see
you. He said, come upstairs and meet
my wife. She has been waiting 10 years
to meet you. Have you ever been behind somebody
that's afraid the light's going to turn red? And it always does, because they're
going so slow. It's the same idea. You know, sometimes we, you know,
ah, you know, I'm just afraid, I'm afraid, you know, this might
be a problem. Well, guess what? Eventually
there's gonna be a problem. I'm afraid this, you know, this might
be a health issue. Well, eventually you will have
health issues. I'm afraid this might happen. Well, guess what?
Those things will happen. Don't borrow on tomorrow's trouble. Don't let tomorrow's trouble
parade on your strength today. There are so many people that
go through life concerned about tomorrow. And the Lord doesn't
say worry about tomorrow. You say, will trials come? Yeah,
trials will come. You say storms will come? Certainly,
storms come. They're a part of life. Difficulty?
Will difficulties come in the future? Yes, they will. Are there
going to be tough days ahead? Yes. but can I give you some encouragement?
His grace will always be sufficient. His grace will always be there.
I've looked at people before, I've asked them, maybe I'm terrible
at this, but there'll be an individual that'll be going through a major
health issue, it's gonna take their life. And I will, I'll talk to them,
I've had the opportunity to talk to people that are facing death
Death is in the near future, within a month or maybe weeks,
and I'll ask him, how are you doing? And you know what? A Christian that is right with
God, it seems like their words are always the same. His grace
is sufficient. And so if they can have that
testimony, then certainly as a Christian, as an individual
whose eyes are on the Lord Jesus Christ, I have an understanding
that when tomorrow's troubles come, whatever they may be, His
grace will be sufficient for me too. But you know what? Oftentimes
we worry. But can I encourage you with this? Live for Jesus
today. Don't worry about tomorrow. Don't
let tomorrow's worries steal your blessing. Psalm 118, the
Bible says, this is the day which the Lord hath made. I will rejoice
and I will be glad. I'll close with this, but the
little poem that goes, be not troubled with the thoughts of
tomorrow, of duties you surely must do. On the Lord cast your
burden of sorrow. It matters to Him about you. Be not weary when trials are
given, but trust Him to carry you through. He will make all
a pathway to heaven. It matters to Him about you. Then be patient until His appearing.
Tis dawn almost now on your view. For the mists of this dark age
are clearing, in love He is planning for you. I don't know about you, but I've
had people tell me, I've had it preached to me, don't worry. But I've been through some darker
days, as have you. And I don't know about you, but
it's easy to worry. It's easy for me to start, I take that
back, to sit there, and to start pondering, and thinking, and
thinking, and thinking, instead of getting my mind off myself,
and my problems, putting my eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ. And
when I do that, you know what I come to the realization? Whatever
may happen here, everything's going to be all right. You know
why? He's still in control. He hasn't
lost it. And he never will. So I don't
know about you, you may be here today, there might be something
you are worrying about. Can I encourage you with this?
Put your eyes on Jesus. It'll be okay. Let's bow for
a word of prayer. Father, we're so thankful for
Lord, we're so thankful that you care about us. Lord, if you
care about some birds, you care about us. Lord, if you can number
the hairs on our head, then certainly you know about us. Lord, we understand
that there are things that are going to come up in life. There
are storms, there are problems, there are difficulties. It's
a part of life. But when those problems and when
those storms arise, Lord, help us to get our eyes off ourselves.
Help us to put our eyes on you. Help us not to borrow from tomorrow's
troubles. Help us to live for you today.
And I pray now you'd bless the invitation. We'll thank you for
it. In Jesus' name, amen.
