Deuteronomy 6 provides the spiritual foundation for what happened to Hannah.
Deuteronomy 6:4 begins with an Indicative: The Lord our God is one.
Out of this indicative comes three imperatives.
- You shall love the Lord your God . . .
- God's Word shall be upon our hearts
- You shall teach them to your children.
There were three things making Hannah's life miserable.
- Internal - Her unfulfilled desire.
- External - The cruelty of Peninnah.
- Spiritual- Questioning God's goodness.
A comparison between Rachel and Hannah reveals that life's miseries are only sufficiently dealt with when we pour our hearts out to God in humility, honesty, and submission.
It was the pouring her heart out in such a way that led her to be content with what God was doing in her life.
Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
