Jesus the Resurrection and the Life
Series Easter
Theme: The only hope of eternal life is found in Jesus Christ alone.
In this passage, we learn that Jesus' delay in coming to Lazarus was not due to indifference but was a sovereign act to glorify God and demonstrate His power over death, culminating in a profound revelation of His identity as the only One who can grant life, both now and in the future. Eternal life begins at faith in Christ, not at death, and true life is not merely existence but a transformed, growing relationship with the living God. In application, we see five truths to consider: Jesus' sympathy for our griefs and sorrows, His sovereign goodness, His deep personal love, the necessity of His sacrificial death and resurrection so that we can have eternal life, and a secured hope. Ultimately, we have a clear choice: to believe in Christ as the resurrection and the life, or to face eternal separation from God. We must ask ourselves as Jesus asked Martha, "Do you believe this?"
