The Showdown on the Sabbath

What is Jesus' intent when he confronts the Pharisees regarding the Sabbath? Does Jesus intend to 'spaccle' over the 4th commandment and leave his disciples with only 9 commandments? Or is something else going on?

To be sure, the Pharisees are asking - "Who do you think you are?"
Jesus response is consistently to ask - "Who do you think I am?"
And then to give them all the evidence they need to reach the right conclusion -- Jesus is indeed the Messiah, the Son of God and the rightful Lord of the Sabbath.
