KEA CH'S CATECHISM, Q. 14 & 15:
GOD'S DECREES IN HIS WORKS OF PROVIDENCE

SUMMARY: God has a plan and a purpose that "all might be gathered together in one, in Christ;" and He has determined to accomplish His will, and His decrees, through the works of Creation and providence. God will "execute His decrees," "to gather all things to Himself," first by creating all things and then by governing all things.


Q. 14. What are God's works of providence?
A. God's works of providence are his most holy,1 wise, 2 and powerful preserving 3 and governing all
his creatures, and all their actions.4
Q. 15. What special act of providence did God exercise towards man in the estate wherein he was created?
A. When God had created man, he entered into a covenant of life with him upon condition of perfect obedience: forbidding him to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, upon pain of death.1


I. GOD EXECUTES HIS DECREES BY THE WORKS OF PROVIDENCE.
A. His Works of providence.

  1. His Works are Holy.
  2. His Works are Wise.
  3. He Governs all things, including evil.
    —He Governs Natural Evil.
    —He Governs Moral Evil.

B. His Special Work of Providence.

  1. His Law Sets a Standard for Communion with God.
    —He Will Gather the Righteous.
    —He Reveals that None are Righteous.
  2. His Providence In Death.
    —Death Gathers the Elect.
    —Death Brings us into Eternal Life.
  3. His providence in Christ.
