Tonight we're turning to the
book of Jeremiah and the chapter five. Jeremiah and the chapter
five for our Bible reading this evening. Jeremiah chapter five, and we'll
begin our reading at verse number one. Run ye to and fro through
the streets of Jerusalem, and see now and know, and seek in
the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be
any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth, and I
will pardon it. And though they say the Lord
liveth, surely they swear falsely. O Lord, are not thine eyes upon
the truth that was stricken them, but they have not grieved? Thou
hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder
than a rock. They have refused to return. Therefore I said, surely these
are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the
Lord nor the judgment of their God. I will get me onto the great
men and will speak onto them. They have known the way of the
Lord and the judgment of their God. But these have altogether
broken the yoke and burst the bonds. Wherefore a lion out of
the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall
spoil them. A leopard shall watch over their
cities. Everyone that goeth out hence
shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many. and their backslidings are increased. Amen. And we'll end our reading
at the sixth verse of Jeremiah chapter five. And with the word
of God before us open, let's unite in prayer together and
let's seek the Lord for this gospel meeting this evening.
Let's pray. Our Father in God, we come before
thee And we do thank thee for a word to preach this evening. We thank thee for the opportunity
to gather, even through this means. We recognize that years
ago, this would not have been possible, and yet, Lord, how
thankful we are for the technology that we enjoy in the 21st century
that allows us to join together around thy precious word, alive,
dear God, and Lord, going into the homes of many. We pray that
thou wilt come now and assist the preacher to proclaim. We
pray, Lord, that thou wilt come and challenge hearts that are
not yet converted. And, Lord, may thy spirit work
in wondrous grace. Lord, we look to thee. Come now
and help. And, Lord, fill me with thy Holy
Spirit. I pray this in and through the
Savior's precious name. Amen and amen. During my ring
round of the congregation in the past week, I was speaking
to a sister concerning all that has befallen us as a nation. During our conversation, she
confirmed something that I said a few weeks ago in our midweek
Bible study.
