Teach Us to Pray

Where does someone go to learn how to better communicate with God? A good place to start is where one of Jesus' disciples began when he approached Jesus and asked, 'Lord, teach us to pray!' Jesus is the perfect lecturer on prayer for He is not knows the theory on prayer, He was a practitioner of prayer! In response to their request, Jesus gave them a prototype, a pattern to follow as we pray. We call it the 'Lord's Prayer'. As we pray we are to focus first of all on praising God for Who He is and what He is doing--and will do. And then focus on our petitions for physical, spiritual, and moral needs we have. And in the story to follow, the parable of the 'nervy neighbor' Jesus emphasizes the need for us to be shamelessly bold in our asking. Dependent people pray! Desperate people pray! Lord, teach us to pray!
