The Sun That Stood Tall In Battle_13
Series Battles of the Bible
The Sun That Stood Tall In Battle Joshua 10:1-43This campaign began with the attack by five Amorite nations upon Gibeon. Gibeon had just escaped war with the Israelites by making peace with them, but making peace with Israel provoked war with the Amorites who had formerly been the Gibeonites' friends. How typical of life this is. You cannot please everyone. Pleasing one group often results in displeasing another group. There are times when we need physical rest and spiritual renewal, and God knows this fact. Therefore, He never condemns us when we are overly tired, stretched out and stressed, needing rest. In fact, God expects us to rest when we need rest and to gain spiritual renewal when we need to be renewed. Feelings of guilt when we are resting, feelings that we are wasting time and displeasing God—such feelings are actually attacks by the enemy. They are attacks attempting to interrupt our rest so that we will become weaker and weaker—so stretched out and stressed that we can no longer stand and fight. During such times, our minds become too tired to fight back against evil imaginations and thoughts, and our bodies become so exhausted that we can no longer do the things we should be doing. There are times when we just need to slow down and quit, stop and rest, renew our bodies and our spirits.
