If there's a soul here tonight or souls listening in to the service who know thee not, that thou will bring them to the Savior. Our gracious and eternal Father, we come into thy presence in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We thank thee, O God, for the one that we can look to and turn to in our time of need. And Lord, we come tonight conscious of our need, conscious, O God, that we need thy help. We need thee to draw near. We need thy presence. We need thy nearness. We need thy gracious touch. And we pray, O God, from the commencement of this service that thou wilt take control, that thou wilt be glorifying. that we will be hid behind the cross, and that none will be seen save Jesus only, and he alone glorified. We pray for the defeat of Satan, and all the powers of darkness that would be arrayed against us. And we pray, our God, that thou wilt work tonight, that thou wilt move tonight, and that thou wilt bless tonight, even in the salvation of some precious, never-dying soul. Some man or woman, young person, yet outside the peal. Lord, bring them in tonight. Bring them in from the fields of sin. Bring the wandering ones to Jesus. Spirit of God, work. Tonight we pray. We thank that he breaks the power of canceled sin. He sets the prisoner free. His blood can make the foulest clean. His blood avails for me. Lord, we pray for that precious blood. to avail tonight for some precious soul to come into the kingdom of God. We pray that thou wilt help us, that thou wilt bless us tonight. And Lord, may we exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray for comfort for thy people. We pray for strengthening for the children of God tonight. We pray that they may know a sense of the nearness of God. even for the incoming week, all the challenges that they face, whether it's in the home or the workplace, whatever area of life they find themselves in, we pray that they may know a real sense of the Lord leading, the Lord protecting, and the Lord guiding. Remember this congregation here. It was said, fear not, little flock. It is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Bless your servant who labors here. Lord, equip him every day, anoint him in his preaching ministry, in his pastoral work, in his evangelistic endeavors. Lord, give him openings, give him opportunities. Help him, O God. We ask of thee and grant, Lord, that he might have a soul winning ministry in this village, in this community. Lord, we pray that many will bless God for the day that this man came. to Six Mile Cross. Keep your hand upon them. Bless them and lead them and guide them even in the days that are to come. Bless the congregation. Extend its borders. Lengthen its course. Strengthen its stakes. Lead it forward in thy will and for thy glory. We pray, our Heavenly Father, to bless our sister congregations tonight. We remember each one of them. The word is preached, Lord, give power. Give blessing, Lord, tonight and in days to come. We pray, our Father, that you'll bless every faithful witness across this land and beyond across the world, that thou wilt work and that thou wilt move, that thou wilt come, that thou wilt hear and answer prayer. We pray for our nation and our land, that thou wilt turn our leaders to thee, Lord, we pray for those who rule over us. Thou hast told us to pray for them. Lord, we pray that they may be led in the way of righteousness, turned from their sin onto Thee. We pray, Father, for those too in the congregation here who are led aside or connected to it. Lord, we pray that you'll draw near in situations of Lord ill health, that that will give healing. O God, where that is thy will to do so. Bring salvation to those in that situation, maybe who know thee not. And Lord, we pray for those who've experienced sorrow too. Think of some of our ministers who've been called home in recent times. Think of the Beatty family and the Whiteside family. We pray for comfort for those left behind. And we pray, O God, that thou would speak through the passing of thy servants. that many maybe who heard their ministry over years and yet don't know their Savior will come to know their Savior. Answer prayer. Be with us tonight and do us good. We pray in Jesus' name and for God's eternal glory. Amen. Hymn number 224. Revelation chapter seven and the verse nine. This is the word of God. Let us hear God's word tonight. After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues, stood before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes and palms in their hands, and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God, which sitteth upon the throne and unto the Lamb. And all the angels stood round about the throne and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces and worshipped God, saying, Amen, blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God forever and ever. Amen. One of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are red and white robes, and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. He said to me, These are they which come out of great tribulation, have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple. And he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more. Neither shall the sun light on them nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, shall lead them on to living fountains of water. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. Amen. And we know that God will bless to us the reading of his precious, infallible, and inerrant word. Returning to hymn number 277. 277. And again, we'll stand as we sing this hymn. Page 288. On the golden streets of heaven, All men hope to walk some day, yet so many are not willing to accept the living way. But others build on good works or opinions if they may. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I'm depending on the blood. What a hymn this is. And we trust that the Lord will apply his words to our hearts. even as we sing them tonight. Page 288, hymn number 277. In the soul-painting love of the Savior, I've been washed in the crimson flood. Oh, early Savior, there is hope some other way. I'm depending on the blood. Some will tell us that God's mercy ♪ To their home, behold, and weep ♪ ♪ And so let love flourish ♪ ♪ Throughout all eternity ♪ ♪ I am a dear savior ♪ ♪ And saviors just like thee ♪ ♪ I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am, I am ♪ I'm defending on the floor. In a soul that's about to fade, I'll be watching, repent, and cry. For a place where there is hope somehow to fade, I'm Can we just be seated for the last two verses and we'll have the offering. Apologies for that but it's my fault. We may see her altars gleaming with her sacrifice and blood, but her wings were only pointing to the past and the land of God. Alleluia! In this old kingdom none of us stay. I mean, why should we wait and cry? Though the world may say, there is hope some other way. Alleluia, alleluia. Let's open our Bibles tonight at the seventh chapter of Revelation. The seventh chapter of Revelation. And let us turn to the Lord in prayer. Let us pray. Our gracious God and loving eternal Father, we come unto thy presence tonight in the peerless and precious name of the Lord Jesus. We thank thee, O God, for the message of the gospel, a message of hope in a hopeless world, a message of good news, the good news of salvation in a world that is filled with bad news. O God, tonight we pray that thou hast ordained, through the foolishness of preaching, to save them that believe. We'll save some soul or souls tonight, as thou didst call them to thyself. I am trusting thee for power. Thine shall never fail, words that thou thyself hast given me. must and shall prevail, we ask in Jesus' name and for God's eternal glory. Amen. The subject tonight is a great multitude, a great multitude. Revelation chapter 7, the context from which we have read earlier in our service, How often we have heard the term multitude used. A great crowd of people gathered at an event in one place. Some sporting events, some concert, a host of events fall into this category, can be described as a multitude. where large numbers of people are gathered in one place. But the Holy Spirit of God uses the term multitude, and it is used in the gospels to describe the number of people who gather together to hear the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, and also to see the works of Christ. They heard Christ, the Bible tells us, For example, in the Sermon on the Mount, a great multitude gathered on that occasion. The word great is also put there in Matthew 8.1. When he was come down from the mountain, that is the Lord Jesus Christ, great multitudes followed him. Multitudes, great multitudes, pressed upon the Lord Jesus Christ. to hear the words that fell from the Savior's lips. And of course, we read of a great multitude with swords and staves who came with Judas to arrest the Lord Jesus. Those who hounded Christ, those who hated Christ, It was a multitude who prevailed when they cried out against Christ, away with him, crucify him, let him be crucified. And the Bible tells us in Luke 23, the voices of them, the multitude and of the chief priests prevailed. And here in Revelation chapter seven and verse nine, we have the term appearing again, a great multitude. After this I beheld and lo, a great multitude which no man could number of all nations stood before the throne and before the land, clothed with white robes and palms in their hands. An innumerable multitude A universal multitude of people gathered together. A general account of those who were saved out of other nations, all nations, and kindreds and people and tongues, the Bible tells us. Here, those selected by God out of all nations and brought into his church. and there stood before his throne. The Bible tells us they stood before the throne and before the Lamb. Observe the posture of these praising saints. They stood before their creator and mediator. You see, we must come to God by Christ. The throne of God would be inaccessible to sinners were it not for our mediator, the Lord Jesus Christ. And the Bible teaches us in 1 Timothy 2.5, there is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. Notice the questions here that are asked by one of the elders, verse 13. What are these which are arrayed in white robes? And whence came they? You'll notice the answers given in the final verses of this chapter, verses 14 to 70, concerning this great multitude. Whence came they? Who are these? Or what are these, which are a red and white rose? First of all, we see from verse 14, they have conquered. These are they which came out of great tribulation. The Bible teaches us that we must go through tribulation, trials and tears and traumas in this world. It's not an easy road, we're traveling to heaven. And God's people are persecuted by men and tempted by Satan and sometimes troubled in their own spirits. Scripture reminds us that we're born to trouble as the sparks fly upward. Man that is born of a woman is a few days and full of trouble. Job tells us in chapter 14 and verse one of his book. Troubles come on every hand, and we cannot understand. And many times we're at a loss to understand why certain troubles have come upon us, even as the people of God. We don't see, we don't know why it's happened. But the Bible tells us, in the world we shall have tribulation. John 16, 33. We will not be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease. These are they which came out of great tribulation. And those in heaven are no longer in tribulation. They have come out of it. They have conquered. They have triumphed. These are the victors. And oh believer, even at this very moment, you may be going through much trouble. And as we traverse this veil of tears, we will all go through, at some time or another, trouble. When we leave this world as God's people, blood-washed, and enter into that land that is fairer than day, having come out of great tribulation, having come through fire and flood, We will be overcomers through him that loved us. Overcomers through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You see, we're on the victory side tonight, and our victory is in Christ and in him alone. Are you on the victory side tonight? Are you in Christ? Are you amongst those who are saved tonight? Have you stepped into the victory of Calvary? the precious blood that he shed. And thank God if you step into that victory tonight and know in your heart the saving power of Christ, then you will be amongst those who are the conquerors, who overcome, enter into glory as overcomers. They have conquered. But then secondly, They are clothed, look at verse 9 again, they're clothed with white robes. They're clothed with the robes of righteousness, invested with the robes of justification and holiness and victory. The filthy rags of their own righteousnesses have been cast aside and the robe of Christ's righteousness have been put on. Listen to the words of Isaiah chapter 61 and verse 10. What words are these? I will greatly rejoice in the Lord and my soul shall be joyful in my God. For he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me, listen, with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh herself with ornaments, as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. What a transformation. For the sinner But how put upon them the garments of His salvation? Have you been clothed with the robe of righteousness? If not, I pray it will be so even tonight. The hymn writer penned the words and we sang them earlier, lay aside the garments that are stained by sin and be washed in the blood of Allah. The book of Zechariah we read of Joshua the high priest in verse 3 of that portion. Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, verse 4 says, and he answered and spake unto those that stood before him saying, take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, behold, I have caused thine iniquity pass from thee. I will clothe thee with a change of raiment. And this is what God does for the sinner who comes to Christ. He takes away the old garments, the old filthy garments of sin. And he puts upon the sinner the garment of his salvation, the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. He removes those garments that are filthy and stained by sin, and he gives the sinner the change of raiment. Have you had that change of raiment, my friend? Remember Adam and Eve and their fall there in the third chapter of Genesis? They fell. And of course, they had sought to hide themselves. God sought them out and searched them out. Where art thou, God said? They sought to clothe themselves, their own fig leaves. But the Bible tells us that God met with them unto Adam and to his wife, did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them, Genesis 3, 22. And my friend, tonight, In order for there to be a clothing for the sinner, there had to be the sacrifice. And by the sacrificial work of Christ, he clothes us, takes away those sinful garments, gives us the clothing of righteousness tonight. What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, we sang at the first tonight, since Jesus came into my heart. What a wonderful change. And many in this meeting or listening in tonight have known that change. Where sin abounded, Paul said, grace did much more abound, Romans 5.20. And those in heaven are those who have conquered. But they're those who are clothed, clothed with the garment of God's salvation. Are you clothed tonight? Are you saved tonight? Have you got God's salvation tonight? If you haven't got it, thank God you can get it tonight, even in the service. And so they are those who have conquered. They are those who are clothed, but they are those who are cleansed. Look, it says in verse 14, To hear many preachers speak today, you would think everyone is going to heaven. Everyone's going to heaven. They put everyone. I remember ministering in Balighan for many years, went to a funeral, came out of the service, was talking to a man, head of the church, free church there in Balighan. I said to him, Was he talking about the same man as we knew? I later had a conversation with a minister, I believe a saved man, said to him, what about that funeral the other day or whenever it was? What did you say that for? Oh, he says, it's what they wanted to hear. He says, it's not what they need to hear. Not what they need to hear. Sadly, that's what's been peddled out across our land today in many, many places. Sad to say, people are being put in to heaven by ministers who know right well that those people had no testimony to the saving grace of God, are not amongst the blood-washed ones. Only the blood-washed ones are in heaven. No sin can enter in there. The Bible tells us, Revelation 21, 27, and there shall no wise enter into it, that is into heaven, anything that defied it, neither whatsoever worketh abomination or maketh a lie, but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Do you rest each moment in the crucified? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you washed in the blood, in the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? The Bible says the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. from all sin, past, present, and future. Every sin. You come here tonight or listening to this service tonight, you say, oh, you don't know about my sin. I don't need to know about your sin. God knows about your sin. God sees everything. And the great truth is he can cleanse away that sin. He's provided cleansing. For every sin, every sin had to go neath the cleansing flow. Come to that fountain so rich and sweet. Cast thy poor soul at the Savior's feet. Plunge in today and be made complete. Glory to his name. Thank God this cleansing blood is available to cleanse every sinner. Make your way. Will you make these words your prayer, whiter than snow? Yes, whiter than snow. Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Will you make that your prayer tonight, just as you are, just where you are? There's a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's fiends and sinners plunged beneath that flood. Lose all their guilty sins, not some of them, not most of them, all of them. Praise God for that. Your sins can be removed as far as the east is from the west. Psalm 103 verse 12. They'll be cast behind God's back. Removed as a thick cloud. Hebrews 10, 17. Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. That's real forgiveness, isn't it? That's real cleansing. That's real deliverance, isn't it? Have you known it, friend? You can know it tonight if you haven't known it up to this very moment. Let me tell you, those in heaven are a cleansed people. The profanity and pollution of sin has been removed. They have been made white in the blood of the Lamb. You know, other blood stains. This is the only blood that makes the robes of the saints of God white and clean, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. It cleanses, purifies, makes whiter than snow. Do you know that cleansing tonight? I'll tell you something more. They are a contented people. The Bible tells us here of these people, a great multitude, which no man could number out of all nations and people of kindreds and people and tongues stood before the throne and before the lamb clothed with white robes and palms in their hands. They're in the presence of their Savior. And you know the Bible teaches us in Psalm 16 verse 11, in thy presence is fullness of joy. They are happy and happier than they could ever have been upon this earth. And when we get there, men and women who are saved, we will be happier than ever we've been on earth. fullness of joy. They are happy in their employment for they serve God continually. They serve him day and night in his temple. The Bible tells us here in verse 15. Without weakness, without drowsiness or weariness, heaven is a state of service. though not of suffering. It is a state of rest, but not of sloth. It is a place of praising, delightful rest. They are happy in their freedom from all the inconveniences of this present life. Enjoying his presence, he that sitteth on the throne, verse 15, shall dwell among them. The presence of the Lord. Now, I have no doubt we will know one another in heaven. I think there's scripture to back that, but our greatest joy would be being in the presence of the savior. Sometimes a bit of, I would say nonsense can be talked about what people will do in heaven, but let's be biblical about it. We'll be taken up primarily with our saviour, the one who has purchased us, the one who has redeemed us. Primarily we'll be enjoying his presence and we'll be enjoying his provision. Because it says in verse 16, His provision. What a provision that is when you go over to the 22nd chapter of Revelation. These last chapters of Revelation 21-22 speak particularly about heaven. It says there, Revelation 22 verses one and two, he showed me a pure river of the water of life clear as crystal proceeding out of the throne of God and of the lamb in the midst of the street of it on either side of the river was the tree of life, which pair bear 12 manner of fruits and yielded her fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree or for the healing of the nations. And again, When you look here back to Revelation 7, for the lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters. He shall feed them. He shall lead them unto living fountains of waters. He shall put them into possession of everything that is pleasant and refreshing. for their souls. We will not lack anything in heaven. What delights will be there? What must it be to be there? To be there! Oh, what must it be to be there? Oh, my friend, I'm looking forward to it. Yes, we're here on this earth, but you know I'm looking up, friend, for my redemption draws nigh, as does the redemption of every true blood-bought child of God. We're looking up. We're looking to that land that is fairer than day. What a day it will be when my Savior I shall see. When I look upon his face, the one who saved me by his grace, he will take me by the hand, lead me to the promised land. What a day, glorious day that will be. Friend, if you're not saved, you don't have that hope. But if you trust Christ tonight, you can't have it. If you take him as your savior tonight. The Bible says here, In verse 17, God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. They're happy in being delivered from the sorrow or the occasion of sorrow of this world. This is a veil of tears. We have sorrows in this life. Maybe you're in a valley of sorrow tonight. or you've been recently in it, or if you haven't been in it, if you're spared, you will go through it as we go through it in this life. Shedding tears. And people shed many tears both on account of sin and also on account of affliction, but God himself with his own gentle and gracious hand will wipe away those tears from the child of God and there'll be no more tears. No more things there that would occasion tears, would bring about tears or sorrow, because there'd be no more death. How he deals with them, his people that is, as a tender father who finds his beloved child in tears, he comforts them. With his tender hand, he wipes away those tears. He turns their sorrows into joy. Revelation 21, verse 4. Listen to the words. God shall wipe away all tears, not some tears, but all tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying. Neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away. And there's the key. The former things are passed away. They're gone. If you will come to Christ tonight, if you will forsake your sin, dear person, then this will be your prospect for all eternity. You know, just a few weeks ago, and I know more recent times, Reverend Whiteside has passed as well, but I was in the presence of the Beatty family just a few minutes after Reverend Beatty passed away in nursing home in Carrick, Fergus. And his daughter said something to me that stuck with me. She said to me, Alan, I was thinking about that verse in Philippians 1. She couldn't remember it just at that moment, of course, in her grief, but I reminded her of it. Philippians 1, 21, for to me, to live is Christ, to die is gain. Our brother knew that gain that afternoon when he died. Brother White said, too, eternal gain. It's far better for him. It's far better for the Christian. But it won't be better for you, friend, if you die in your sin. Because where Christ is, you cannot be. You will not be in the presence of Christ. You will be lost in hell. That's what the Bible says. Therefore, I urge you tonight, If it's the last time I ever stand in a pulpit, I urge you tonight to come to Christ. Time is short. Eternity is near for all of us. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, and call upon him while he is near. Come to Christ tonight. be saved. Years ago, I was ministering in the Shankill Road. We were at the Sunday school in the afternoon, and it was the day before mobile phones. Anyway, I got a message related to me, say about this man. He'd been attending the church for A number of years could have been a decade, maybe, something like that, he and his wife. His wife was saved, he wasn't. He took a massive heart attack. I remember making my way to the royal, the old royal, the long corridor and the cardiac reward. There he was. A little unit there. And he saw me. And he waved to me to come in. And I came in beside his bed. And he said to me, Mr. Smiley, I need to get saved now. I said, Jimmy, Let's look at scripture. And I took him through the scriptures. And he said, I know I need to be saved. Now, he kept repeating it. And he got saved. And he recovered and lived for years after. Came to the church, became very faithful in his attendance at prayer meetings in the church over years. His wife pre-deceased him, in fact. Friend. He knew he had to get saved at that very moment. And you need to get saved tonight. Because you can walk out of that door tonight with no guarantee you'll have another opportunity. Or you can switch your computer off tonight or whatever you're listening on if you're not saved and you may not have another opportunity to listen into another gospel service. That's the truth. Behold, now is the accepted time. Behold, now is the day of salvation. Let us pray. Father, bless thy word to hearts tonight. Bring souls to the Savior. Call men and women from their sin tonight, young people, unto Christ, we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Hymn number 269, On page 284, I've wandered far away from God. Now I'm coming home.
