The Armour of God (Part 3) - The Shoes of Peace

26

Satan has a plethora of ways to attack Christians; we must take up every piece of God's armour. We are all drafted into the Lord Sabaoth's army. But He has dealt the deathblow to Satan, has given us the Spirit and Gospel gifts to fend off the foe and further Christ's kingdom. It is not enough to know the Gospel but to put it on, to put on Christ.

We tread on rough spiritual terrain, and need shoes to guard us. In Roman times, combat boots gave proper, firm footing, as well as balance. So also, the shoes of peace provide stability, security, and mobility in the Christian walk, making us ready for battle.

The shoes are put on by faith. In Christ, we have peace with God. We must put on the true peace of the true Gospel offered by the true God. There is no peace with God outside of Jesus Christ. We were estranged from God and enemies of Him. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

Rom 5 – No justification means no peace. We must be justified by faith to have peace with God (v1). We were enemies (v10), ungodly (v6) and sinners (v8).

Eph 2 – We were dead in trespasses (v1), children deserving of God's wrath (v3). We had no hope, without God in the world (v12). Christ Himself is our peace (v14), and He came to reconcile us to God, killing the hostility between us and God (v16)

Other religions say the problem is outside of us. The Bible says the problem is within: our sin. We cannot find peace without but on only outside of us, in Christ. Only His blood frees us.

The Gospel is more than God's forgiveness, but that we have friendship, intimacy, and fellowship with God. Not only has He justified us, but we are accepted and adopted.
