Christ, the King, our shield
and our defender, we know that, Lord, thou art with us. We rest for thee, and in thy
name we go. Strongly our strength, strength with thy giving defend. We rest
for thee, and in thy name we go. In mighty reign, all other kings
abound. Jesus, Lord God, just with such true foundation, a grace of glory and our King
above. Well, it's a little bit like
bosses. You don't have many for a long
time, and then, well, at least two have come along in recent
days, two dedication services, and how thankful we are for the
Lord's good mercy and his good grace. Want to commit this time
just to the Lord in a short word of prayer, and then we'll read
some scriptures and bring a few thoughts around God's word. Loving Father, we lift our hearts
in grateful praise for thy good and tender mercies to the sons
of men, We thank Thee for Thy common grace. We bless Thee that
we all experience that, those saved, those who are unsaved,
the causing of the rising of the sun to shine on the just
and on the unjust. And yet we thank Thee for saving
grace. And what a rejoicing it is to
our souls that before us stands a mother and a father who savingly
know Christ and who desire their little one, oh God, to be saved
early in life. and then to do the will of God
in his life. So bless our time around thy
word. We pray this in Jesus' precious name. Amen. Deuteronomy chapter six, please,
first of all. Some verses here, Deuteronomy
chapter six. Beginning at verse number four,
the word of God says here, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. And thou shalt love the Lord
thy God with all thine heart, with all thy soul, and with all
thy might. And these words which I command
thee this day shall be in thine heart. And thou shalt teach them
diligently unto thy children. And shalt talk of them when thou
sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and
when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt
bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets
between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon
the posts of thy house and on thy gates. And it shall be when
the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, which he
sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give
thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not, and
houses full of all good things, which thou fillest not, and wells
digged, which thou diggest not, vineyards and olive trees, which
thou plantest not. When thou shalt have eaten and
be full, then beware, As thou forget the Lord which brought
thee forth out of the land of Egypt and from the house of bondage. And then in Mark's gospel in
the chapter 10, we're reading from the verse 13. And they brought
young children to him, speaking of Christ, that he should touch
them and his disciples rebuke those that brought them. But
when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them,
Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them
not, for if such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you,
whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child,
he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms,
put his hands upon them, and blessed them. Then the book of
Psalms, Psalm 127. Psalm 127, one of the Song of
Degrees. Psalm written for the pilgrims
going up to Jerusalem. Psalm 127, the word of God says,
except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build
it. Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but
in vain. It is vain for you to rise up
early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows, for so
he giveth his beloved sleep. Though children are an heritage
of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is his reward, the sorrows
are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth.
Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them. They shall
not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the
gate. Amen, and may God bless the reading
of God's precious word today. Today, David and Naomi have brought
their son Caleb to this meeting house to dedicate him on to the
Lord, just as Hannah did to Samuel. It was many, many years ago in
1 Samuel and the chapter number one. They're fully aware, fully
aware that this service makes no spiritual change in the life
of Caleb. This isn't some kind of lucky
charm, some kind of hocus-pocus that takes place. Caleb will
come and Caleb will go from this house as he came into this world,
a sinner, in need of God's saving grace, the exercise within his
heart and brought unto bring him to saving faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ. And as a congregation, we just
want to publicly acknowledge God's mercy to this family, to
mother, to child, to mother during the nine months of pregnancy
and to mother and child during the child birthing process. God
has been good. We come to publicly acknowledge
this in this dedication service. And as I considered this service,
my mind was directed to words that we find in the opening of
the verse number three of this psalm together, where we read,
though children are an heritage of the Lord. Though children
are an heritage of the Lord. The word heritage translates
to mean heirloom or inheritance. And as a word, it signifies the
worth that is placed on children by the Lord. Sadly, we live in
a society and a nation that places little value, little value upon
the child. They'll take the child and they'll
murder the child within the womb, within the abortion clinics and
within the hospital theatres of our nation. And then if a
child is born, a child will maybe suffer neglect and will suffer
abuse, mistreatment within the home. Society places little value
upon the child. And yet here in verse 3 we are
reminded that Caleb has not come into this world by chance or
by fate, but rather God has gifted to David and Naomi this boy. God has gifted to them and entrusted
to him an heirloom, an inheritance, his heirloom, his inheritance,
his heritage to you as parents. And God has entrusted you to
bring the boys up in the nurture and in the admonition of the
Lord. He wants you to remind them of who he is, his existence,
his perfections, his law, his claims upon their lives. As Christian parents, it is your
responsibility to instill into the hearts the truth of God's
word. And so I trust that in the days
that lie ahead, that the Lord will enable you and help you
to do that, and that God will use you even in his service. You know, because Caleb is part
of God's heritage, David and Naomi, The Lord would exhort
you as parents to strive to show them a right example of godly
living in your home and in your family. He'd have you to spiritually
train them up in the things of God. And also, he would have
you to make them the object of your fervent prayers both publicly
and privately. As parents, may God give you
wisdom. May we pray for you as a congregation. We come to do
that as a congregation. We come to pray and to leave
you in the Lord's May the Lord help you even in the days that
lie ahead. Let me ask the congregation please
to stand. David and Naomi, these vows are
taken before God and before men. First of all, do you, the parents
of Caleb Junkin, profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your
own and personal Savior? Do you promise, relying on divine
grace and the instruction of Holy Scripture, to bring Caleb
up in the nurture and the admonition of the Lord? We do. And is it your prayer that while
young in life Caleb will come to faith in Jesus Christ and
thereafter to the will of God? Well, following then the example
of Scripture and the invitation of the Lord Jesus Christ, I dedicate
thee, Caleb Daniel Junkin, to the Lord, to his grace. In the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. The
Lord bless thee, and keep thee. The Lord make his face to shine
upon thee, and be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift up his countenance
upon thee, and give thee peace. Peace purchased at the place
called Calvary. It was many, many years ago.
Let's seek the Lord, and let's pray, and let's commit the family
circle to the Lord in prayer. Let's seek the Lord. Loving Father
and gracious God, we come before Thee. We rejoice, Lord, in the
saving grace of God and the life of both David and Naomi. We thank Thee for their family
who's here today. We thank Thee for their parents,
and we rejoice, Lord, in Thy goodness. to them. And now, Lord,
we pray for David and for Naomi, his father and mother within
the home. We pray, dear God, for Caleb and for Micah. Lord, we pray that as a family
that thou will bless them and be with them. And Lord, may thy
hand be upon them in the days that lie ahead. We pray that
grace will triumph in the hearts and the minds of those who still
know thee not, And we pray that this day will be a day of Lord,
dedication to the will of God, even in the life of young Caleb. Touch him, Lord, we pray. Save
him by grace. Transform the heart, we cry to
thee by thy spirit. And do thine own work, we pray.
We offer prayer in and through the Savior's precious name. Amen
and amen. We're turning to 500 again. Keep
standing, please. 565. 565. We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling.
565. Let's sing these three verses, please. Happy New Year. Happy New Year. The Son that I am near, release
from me, and ignite A little love to watch and be
amazed. Faithless we grow, but it's a prayer. May be seated. A copy of scriptures to young
Caleb and we trust that he'll read them even whenever he grows
up and he is able to do that. May the Lord bless the
