David's circumstances were grim. He appealed to his friend Jonathan for help, as he was one false move away from death at the king's hand. However, Jonathan's loyalty to David meant rejecting his father, Saul. When we examine the strong commitment between David and Jonathan, it points us to an even greater covenant: God's eternal devotion to His people.
