Dependence Upon the Spirit

Critics of Reformed theology contend that we slight God the Holy Spirit because we do
not focus enough of our attention upon Him. This criticism may seem to be born out
when we see that the Heidelberg Catechism gives us but one, brief Question and
Answer explaining the Holy Spirit, while it gives 24 Questions and Answers to the
person and work of Jesus Christ. If understood correctly, however, we will admit that
the Holy Spirit likes it this way!
Tonight we will learn from both the Bible and our Catechism:

1. Why the Holy Spirit is so essential.

2. Who the Holy Spirit is.

3. What the Holy Spirit does for us.
