Hello and welcome to this edition of Everyday Cary Christian. I'm Pastor Steve. Thanks for participating and being a part of our program here today. We are in Proverbs chapter 4, verses 5 through 9. Do you like watching ball games? Have you been watching a basketball tournament recently? I like watching basketball games. Maybe you're a football fan or a baseball fan. At the end of a championship run, all of the other teams have been defeated in the regular season. The playoffs are now in full swing, and you have this team's playing, Team A's playing Team B, and then they win, and they're gonna play Team C then, and it goes through this whole tournament. And at the end of it all, You've seen people, and maybe you'll see this this season, somebody will say, we're number one. They'll hold their finger up just like this, number one, number one. You'll see that around the Olympic time, you know, USA, USA, number one, number one. They hold up their finger, number one. And maybe you saw that in high school or in college or some other arena of life where somebody says, We're number one, or I'm number one. There's something that should be number one in our life. The primary thing, the principal thing that Solomon says that we should have, and it's our everyday carry truth for today, is wisdom. wisdom. Now, we have a lot of knowledge. We're educated a lot. Maybe you're in school right now. You're being educated, but wisdom is the practical application of knowledge. I know a lot of stuff. Okay, well, I want to be wise. Then I'm going to practically in wise ways apply that knowledge and that's wisdom to give a healthy and accurate and a helpful application of what I know into my life. That's wisdom. And we need wisdom every day. So our everyday carry truth is to get the principle thing, which is wisdom. Let's read the verses. Verse 5 begins, Get wisdom, get understanding, forget it not, neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee. Love her, and she shall keep thee. Now Solomon is writing this down. He's going to pass this This really timeless message unto His Son. He talks about wisdom and knowledge. And notice in verse 6, forsake her not. Forsake means to leave, like to abandon. I'm not going to even have this wisdom. He says don't do that. Forsake her not. If you don't abandon wisdom, then she will preserve thee. That means to keep a watch for you. Keep a watchful eye over your life. And that's a great thing to have, to have wisdom looking out after you. But not only that, if you love wisdom, according to the rest of this verse, love her and she shall keep thee. The word keep, when it's a noun, a thing, it's the keep like in a castle. The keep was the tower in the middle, the central most part, the most fortified, protected place in the castle. They'd keep the gold and the precious metals and jewels and the crown. And also the king and his family would be in the keep whenever there was a siege or enemies outside of the castle. The most fortified place. Here it's used as a verb. And so if we love wisdom, she will protect you. She will keep you. She will guard you. So if we don't forsake her, here she is, she's looking out after you, a watchful eye, and then if you love wisdom, she's gonna protect you and keep you safe. You know, there's a lot of things that could happen in your life to this point that hasn't happened because you applied wisdom in your life. Now there's a lot of others, maybe you've experienced this as well, as I wasn't wise, I made a wrong choice, and then you have some fallout from that, you have some problems because of that. Let's continue. Wisdom is the principal thing. It's what we need today. Therefore, get wisdom with all thy getting. Get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee. She shall bring thee to honor when thou dost embrace her. She shall give thine head an ornament of grace. A crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. You see, if we live with wisdom, not only will we look good, will be good, and she'll be this ornament of grace. We all need God's grace in our life, and we need to show grace to other people. How can we do that? By applying wisdom. So today, number one. Who's number one? What's number one? As wisdom is personified, number one is wisdom. Friends, let's get some wisdom and then live by that beautiful wisdom in our life. It'll make you a better person.
