The Removal of the Gospel

937

Throughout the ages, the seat of the Church has been changed, but the Church itself survives. If a people does not hunger and thirst for righteousness, the bread and wine of it (which are bought at so precious a price) will not be left out to spoil and collect flies. Thus the removal of the gospel is God’s sorest and most final judgment upon a land; it visibly illustrates that God’s patience with that stiff-necked people has come to an end, and that he has washed his hands of them. Let us be found at work as salt and light, praying that God’s Spirit would work reformation here before such calamity befalls us. “Remember from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Revelation 2:5
