Paul's desire for prayer for his ministry to unbelievers raised a similar matter in the lives of the Colossian believers; living as the new humanity in their interactions with unbelievers. From the examples of Paul and of Christ himself, we know that this instruction does not mean that believers should always be positive or approving in their conversations with unbelievers. Graciousness and wholesomeness in speech imply patience and longsuffering, not shrinking from telling the truth (Mt. 12:34; 16:23; Gal. 3:1-5).
