The Glorious Enjoyment of Heavenly Things By Faith

456

The Glorious Enjoyment of Heavenly Things by Faith Jeremiah Burroughs (1599-1646) Jeremiah Burroughs was a member of the Westminster Assembly whose most well-known work is The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment. He studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, but was forced to leave because of nonconformity. He was an assistant to Edmund Calamy at Bury St. Edmunds, and eventually became rector of Tivetshall, Norfolk. He was soon deprived of this post for his nonconformity, and he emigrated to Rotterdam where he pastored an English church unimpeded. He returned to England in 1641 at the stirrings of the English Civil War, preaching at Stepney and Cripplegate in London. The following sermon was preached in London on April 25, 1641. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

During this fearful time of plague (the #CoronavirusPandemic), this message by Burroughs is most timely.

Let us focus on the evidence of things not seen; our reward in Heaven._DAL
