Jehovah's Servant - A Man of Sorrows

This memorable verse sets before us two things:

1. Another reason, the third one in total, is highlighted for their rejection - Jehovah's Servant is a man of sorrows.

2. This verse also highlights the depths of this rejection of Jehovah's Servant. There is deep-seated hostility.

This verse emphasises this continued state of rejection when it records phrases such as: He is despised and rejected of men; …we hid as it were our faces from him & …he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

We will dwell only upon this first point today.

The first part of this phrase, man of sorrows, detailing this third reason for rejection expresses the designation under which Jehovah's Servant will function. He will be a man of sorrows.

The second part, acquainted with grief, will set before us the experience of Jehovah's Servant. He will be a Servant acquainted with grief.
