A Warning Against Apostasy

78

There is an observation that the Scriptures make about a person, who though hearing and seeing the truth of God remains unchanged by it. - "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like." James 1:23-24. The Apostle in Hebrews would have us not only hear of the glorious truth of Jesus Christ as sent from the Father, the supreme revelation of mercy and salvation, but embrace Christ by faith, believing upon Him as the One who is able to deliver our lives from sin and death. And to also develop lives of holiness and faithfulness to Him. So the saint is warned, having seen the truth live and mature in it, and so the question: Are you maturing in the faith revealed, or are you hampered by idolatry, laziness or apathy? Rather seek to grow in grace that you might be a more faithful servant, a more useful tool and one who contributes to the good of the body.
