The Order of Melchizedek

The Apostle continues to outline all the ways in which the ministry of Christ is superior to that of all other Old Testament "heroes," the angels who ministered to men and all the institutions that were graciously given by God in order to mediate His blessed, life-giving presence. Here he moves into the theme that takes up much of the epistle of Christ, our Great High Priest. By necessity all men need a priest, and for centuries that office was held by mere men, according to the order of Levi. In Christ a greater ministry and in Christ another order, the order of Melchizedek. This Sunday we examine the superiority of Christ's priestly ministry, according to that greater order.
