The Betrayer & The Believer

124 ( 75 | 49 )

In the Garden of Gethsemane we see two different men with two different actions. One of those men is a betrayer and the other man is a believer.

Now the two men are Judas and Peter. We see in the life of Judas that he betrayed the Lord Jesus and we see in the life of Peter that He believed on the Lord Jesus.

Not only was Judas a betrayer Judas was a thief.

It appears from the Scriptures that Judas was the treasurer for Jesus and His disciples. Judas ministered with Jesus and His disciples for around three years and in their travelling they needed money for food.

Judas was an idolater and one of his idols was money.

The first words we hear Judas speak in the Gospel of John concerns money and you see this in John 12.5.

Mary the sister of Martha and Lazarus anointed Jesus with expensive oil when Jesus was in her house and Judas complained.

Her act of costly sacrificial worship was looked down upon by Judas, Judas complained about what she had done for Jesus because he was an idolater and a thief.

Three years in the company of the Holy Son of God.
Three years seeing the miracles of Jesus.
Three years seeing the compassion of Jesus for others.
Three years hearing the prayers of Jesus.
Three years seeing the love of Jesus to others.
Three years witnessing Jesus live in perfect obedience to the Father.
Three years of hearing the Word of God from the lips of Jesus.
Three years of the best Bible education that anyone could get and yet Judas was a traitor because Judas was an idolater and His idol was money.

What a lesson for the people of God today! Peter was a Believer who made mistakes but Judas was a Betrayer, Judas did not trust in Christ.
