It's easy to mistake acts of mercy (kindness toward us) for respect.

There are times when others have little to no respect for us, but because of our position and place with someone they care deeply about, they'll extend kindness to us, in spite of our foolishness. People can be kind to those they don't respect... we all do it everyday. But honor and respect are uncommon and unfitting for a fool.

So, think about it, if others are lavishing you with kindness, in the midst of your foolishness, don't mistake the gesture for respect... they're often looking past you and honoring someone close to you.
