21 The Wonders of Kingdom Growth

  1. What does this parable teach us about the TRUE church?
  1. This parable is about a single grain, a single seed that grows into a single tree. The Kingdom of God is not multiple, it is single.
  2. The grain is like the smallest grain, the mustard seed. Jesus is not making a scientific statement here, but is emphasizing the smallness in a way the people could understand.
  3. Not only did the seed start small, it grew large.
  4. The plant grows to be substantial; large enough that birds can make their nest in its shade, large enough to impact the ecosystem; other creates are able to find safety in it; the branches support and protect other living things.
  1. This parable was designed to not only make these observations about the Kingdom, but was also to strengthen the faith of those believers. It also applies to us specifically.
  1. This parable assures us that the kingdom grows. There are different seasons and times when the ministry of the Word and the working of the Spirit is in huge supply. Also there are times of pruning.
  2. Just because it starts small, doesn't mean it is insignificant. Don't despise the small things. Small moments of grace are the very building blocks of great outpourings of grace.
  3. This parable assures us of a a complete transformation.
