Ephesians chapter four, and we'll
go ahead and begin reading at verse 11, and we'll go down to
verse 16. Ephesians chapter four, begin
at verse 11. It says, and he gave some apostles
and some prophets and some evangelists and some pastors and teachers.
for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ. Till we all come in
the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God
unto a perfect man unto the measure of the stature of the fullness
of Christ. that we henceforth be no more
children tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind
of doctrine by the slight of men and cunning craftiness whereby
they lie in wait to deceive, but speaking the truth in love
may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ,
from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted
by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working
in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto
the edifying of itself in love. This evening for a few moments,
I'd like for us to consider the subject of the call to preach,
the call to preach. We'll also be considering in
this message, the call of a pastor. You know, and this may seem like
a weird topic to consider on a Wednesday evening when there's
not a whole lot of men here. However, it's important that
every child of God, particularly every church member, understand
something about this subject. If you've never had the call
to preach, if you've never experienced the call to pastor, You may not
understand much about it if you've never studied it. And if you've
never studied it or if you've never experienced it, somebody
asks you about it, you trying to explain it might be like trying
to come back from someplace you've never been. It's not very easy
to do. And sometimes people do wonder
about this type of a question. They do wonder about this type
of a subject. And it is important for church to know
about it because if it's done right, if it's done properly,
the church is involved. Because let me tell you, there
are no freelance preachers, and a pastor is going to be, if he's
gonna do it right, he's gonna be pastor of one of the Lord's
churches, which means that the church is involved in his call. And so there has to be some involvement
of the church and understanding and being able to discern whether
a person really is called of God, because here's the thing. Not everybody who comes along
has really been called of God. Not every person who claims that
they've been called to preach, called as a missionary, called
as a pastor, is truly called of God. And we can discern that
and we can know that as the people of God. And so that's what we
wanna look at tonight for a few moments. And so first of all,
you can hold your place here. We'll be back in Ephesians. But
the first thing we wanna consider is who is not called. who is not called. We want to
get that out of the way before we get into the meat and potatoes
of the lesson, before we get into the main part of this. First of all, women are not called as preachers
or pastors. You say, well now wait a minute,
how can you be so sure? In 1 Corinthians, 1 Corinthians
chapter 14. 1 Corinthians chapter 14, verses
34 and 35, look at what the scripture says
here. in 1 Corinthians 14, verses 34
and 35, he says, let your women keep silence in the churches,
for it is not permitted unto them to speak, for they are commanded
to be under obedience, as also saith the law. If they will learn
anything, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is a
shame for women to speak in the church. When we look at this,
We understand that women have a great place in the church,
and we're thankful for women. But their place is not to pastor
churches. In fact, if you are ever, and
I hope no one here ever leaves this church, but let me tell
you, especially you young people, my kids are here, particularly,
as you get older, you may end up moving away from mommy and
daddy and going someplace else. And you may look for a church.
And I hope that you do when you get out. And if you do move away,
you look for a sound church. If you walk into a church building
and there's a woman up behind the pulpit preaching, or a woman's
name is on the sign, Pastor so-and-so woman, understand that church
has drifted away from the truth of God's word. Something has
happened there that ought not to have happened. Over in the
book of Titus chapter one, Titus chapter one, The book of Titus chapter one
and beginning of verse six. He says, if any be blameless,
the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused
of riot or unruly, for a bishop must be blameless as the steward
of God, not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine,
no striker, not given to filthy lucre, but a lover of hospitality,
a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate, holding fast
to faithful word as he hath been taught. that he may be able by
sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, especially
they of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert
whole houses, teaching things which they ought not for filthy
lucre's sake. You see, the Bible gives qualifications
for the pastor or the bishop, and one of them is, to be the
husband of one wife. A woman cannot be. God does not
call unqualified individuals to be pastors. He doesn't call them to be preachers.
That would include not only the women, you know, I mentioned
them, but also heretics. God does not call heretics to
be preachers. They are something, but they
are not preachers of the Lord. Notice there in the list, in
the examination we see here, it talks about sound doctrine. Over in 1 John chapter four,
in 1 John chapter four, In verse 1, 1 John chapter 4
in verse 1, he says, Beloved, believe not every spirit, but
try the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false
prophets are gone out into the world. Believe not every spirit,
try the spirits, whether they're of God. False prophets are not
of God. These guys that are out there
preaching false doctrine, they are not of God. Now, I'm
not talking about, when I say false doctrine, when the Bible
speaks of false doctrine, we're not necessarily talking
about someone that you disagree with over the head covering,
the timing of the rapture, Things like that. Because you see, some
good and godly men have disagreed over those things. And I believe
that they've all been called of God. But there are some men
out there who preach some horrible doctrines, some horrible teachings,
some things that are so way out there in left field that you
don't even recognize them anymore. In fact, if you go on down here,
he says in verse two, hereby know ye the Spirit of God. Every
spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is
of God. And every spirit that confesseth
not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God, and
this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it
should come, even now already is it in the world. In John's day, there were men,
they were following this Gnostic doctrine that I spoke of a few
days ago, a belief that Jesus had not really come in the flesh. That's pretty far out there. And John writing under the inspiration
of the Spirit says, they're not of God, right? Verses two and
three is not meant to be a checklist to see whether someone is of
God. You've got to go a little deeper
than that. Because let me tell you, A Catholic will confess that
Jesus came in the flesh. You've got to examine them a
little closer than that. But a Catholic priest has not
been called of God. God does not call unsaved men
into the pulpit. I may get into a little bit of
trouble over this, but up north, there was a preacher who had,
he said he'd been called to preach. He said he'd been saved. And
then all at once at one Bible conference, he said, oh, I was
wrong. I really wasn't saved, but now
I am. But you know that guy just kept
right on preaching. As if his call to preach was
still the same from before he was saved. No, it wasn't. No,
it wasn't. God doesn't call unsaved men
into the pulpit, period. I think that a lot of times,
a lot of churches get into trouble because their preachers are lost. Some of this false doctrine that
people are talking about and preaching, yeah, part of the
problem is these preachers ain't studying, but some of these preachers
don't know the Lord, and God didn't call them. That's just
a fact. God didn't call them. So let's look at our text in
Ephesians chapter four. And he gave, verse 11, Ephesians
4, and he gave some. Well, when we look back, we find
who it is that gave, that was Jesus. Jesus gave some. Not everybody's been called,
but some. And then we get this list. The men who filled these offices. apostles, the prophets, the evangelists,
pastors and teachers. They were a gift to the churches. Now, Ephesians 4 verse 11 covers all
of church history. We know, as we've looked at in
previous sermons and examined, there are no more apostles. There are no more prophets. The evangelists of the New Testament,
they're very similar. If anything, they're very similar
to our missionaries. And then we have pastors and
teachers. They've been given. You see, in other words, you could think of them as being
chosen, as being called, as being set apart. These individuals, now not everybody,
some, Why? Verse 12, for the perfecting
of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying
of the body of Christ. They've been given to build up
the people of God or to grow them. That's what, if you were to sum
that up, that's what that is right there in verse In verse
12, that's why it's so, that's one of the reasons why it's so
disappointing and frustrating to me when I hear of a pastor
or a preacher or a missionary that has gone off on doctrine. Looking at verse 13. Till we all come in unity of
the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect
man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. You see, given, why? To promote
the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God. We're not
there yet. But to promote that, how? verses 14 through 16, that we
henceforth be no more children tossed to and fro and carried
about with every wind of doctrine by the slight of men and cunning
craftiness whereby they lie in wait to deceive, but speaking
the truth in love may grow up. into him in all things, which
is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body fitly joined
together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth according
to the effectual working in the measure of every part maketh
increase of the body into the edifying of itself in love." Fostering that spiritual growth
to preach the truth and to warn against error, you see, That's why. And for how long? For how long? As we brought out, not all spiritual
gifts have ceased. And this one, this one is continual. As long as the church exists.
Verse 13 there, it says, till we all come in unity of the faith.
and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man to
the measure of stature of the fullness of Christ. You see,
we ain't there yet. We ain't there yet. Now, this
doesn't mean, again, that all the offices exist until this
time. This is why it's important to
compare Scripture with Scripture, and to see, well, what about
the apostles, and what about the prophets? And you check these
things out, and you look, and you find out that those things
don't exist. A lot of different ways we could
go with this, but as I was looking at this, I got to thinking about
that word ministry. What's the ministry? What's the ministry? And as I
began looking at that, I found that the word ministry
occurs 18 times in our King James Bibles. I like doing word studies. 18 times. There is much confusion about
ministries, and sometimes we throw it out there, and sometimes
you'll see it out in the world, too. You got this church that's
got the bus ministry, and the children's ministry, and the
old person's ministry, and the beach ministry, the city ministry,
the coffee ministry. What is all this? I think sometimes we get overstressed
out about stuff because we have gotten away from the simplicity
of what ministry really is. What is it? Well, I want to particularly
look at what is pastoral ministry? What's he talking about here
when he talks about the work of the ministry? First of all, let's look at this and see what
it's not. Pastoral ministry is not that God has called men to produce
converts. You see, God has called men into the ministry,
but it's not our job to get people saved. Now, God is the one who
does the saving. Understand that, and we praise
God for his sovereign grace, and every one of us should be
so thankful that God is sovereign over salvation. But understand,
beloved, that that does not mean that there's no work to be done.
There's work for me, and yes, there's even work for you too,
but look, since we're talking about the call to preach, and
we're talking about, and we're looking at pastoral ministry,
take a look at 1 Corinthians chapter three. First Corinthians chapter three,
verses six and seven. I have planted, Apollos watered,
but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth
anything, neither he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase. Oh, the sooner we realize that,
the better. For two reasons. Number one, number one, as preachers, to
understand that God is sovereign over these things takes a lot
of pressure off of our back. but also to realize our responsibility. Now, you think about an earthly
garden. I would imagine that, you know,
he's not here tonight, but I would imagine that Brother Craig's
already got his garden started, probably at least in the greenhouse. And if he wants tomatoes this
year and peppers and all of the things that he grows, he's got
to do some work to get them to grow, but it's God that gives
the increase. Brother Craig has to make sure
and plant the seed and he's got to water and tend to the soil. Isn't it amazing that God gives
us illustrations that the Corinthians would understand 2,000 years
ago and you and I understand just as well today? But also, check this out. This
is the beauty of it. It takes time to see the harvest. This also takes a lot of pressure
off of the preacher and it'll take a lot of pressure off of
you as you witness to your friends and as you understand how this
works. If you put a seed in the soil,
it doesn't grow overnight and you're not going to see fruit
tomorrow. And so it is in the ministry
of the word. So it is in the pastoral ministry. So it is in the church. Listen,
folks, it may be years before we see
anything happen. It may even be beyond my lifetime. But what I'm called to do is
to be faithful. It also takes away pastoral jealousies,
doesn't it? Because guess what? Paul says, I've planted, Apollos
watered, but God gave the increase. Can you imagine? And I've seen
this in Armenian churches before. They get jealous over each other.
If one pastor is in a place and then he leaves and then someone
else comes in, And then somebody's converted under that second pastor. Oh, well, I can't believe he
got that one. I worked with that guy for so
long. You know what? It's God. Forget about it. You know, it's not you. It's
not me. It's God. God has not called men to produce
converts. We sow, we water, but God's the
one that gives the increase. You see, over in 2 Timothy chapter
four, I get too excited on some of these
points. I may keep you hearing later than I intended. 2 Timothy
chapter four and verse five, when Paul wrote to Timothy, he
said, but watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work
of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. He said, Timothy, you do the
work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry. Nowhere do you find where Paul
wrote to Timothy and say, make sure you have a church of 100
people. That you got so much money coming
into the bank, or you know, all the, he said, you do the work, Be faithful, in other words,
be faithful. That's what God's looking for. Secondly, God has not called
men to comfort unrepentant sinners. I'll say it again, God has not
called men to comfort unrepentant sinners. Every time that a pastor
gets that idea in his head, It leads to compromise. He sugarcoats
the truth. He doesn't tell the truth. He
quits preaching the truth or whatever. God has called us to
preach. We're not called to tickle people's
ears. In Acts chapter 20, Acts chapter 20, verses 20 and 21. How I kept back nothing that
was profitable unto you, but have showed you and have taught
you publicly and from house to house, testifying to the Jews
and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our
Lord Jesus Christ. There's a lot in this book. A lot in these 66 books of the
Bible. Some of it is a lot easier to
preach than others. But it all needs to be preached.
It all needs to be preached. Every bit of it. And sometimes, sometimes, There
may be somebody in this very room who has some sin that they're
not repenting of, and they may be mad because of something that
they've heard from this book. I'm obligated to preach it. I'm
obligated to preach it. Obviously in love, and obviously
not to point people out or that sort of thing, but still, we can't compromise the truth.
Thirdly, God has not called pastors to be like other pastors. I'm not sure how many churches
there are in America right now. That might be an interesting
thing to do, is try to count how many churches of like faith
there are at the moment. and how many pastors there are,
and how many churches are without pastors, but here's the deal.
There is no two pastors exactly alike, and God has not called
any pastor to be like another pastor, but I'll tell you what
he's done. He's called us all to be like
Christ. He's called us all to be like
Christ. That's what we should do. That's what we should do.
We all are different. We have different gifts, different
abilities, different strengths, and different weaknesses. Just like every church is different.
I'm gonna be kind of partial here and tell you that I believe
that the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church here is the best church
in America. I believe that, and I think you
should believe that too. That's why you're a member of
it, right? And if you don't believe it, then you ought to see what
you can do to make it the best church. But be careful of comparison
traps. Be careful of comparison traps. Oh, that church over yonder is
so much better than this one, the mind will start The devil
starts tempting you with that stuff. Oh, our pastor isn't as
good as... And look, I'll be the first to
admit, I know there's some men that are better than I am in some ways and that sort of
thing. But my goal is not to be better than the pastor over
yonder. My goal is to be more like Christ
every year. Every year. That's my goal. As I live through this life,
That's what I want, and I hope you'll pray with me on that as
well. What is pastoral ministry as
we try to go through this very, very quickly? First of all, it
is to serve Christ for His pleasure and glory. I'm not here to make
a name for myself, and I don't I don't believe anybody in this
church would want me to make a name for myself. Over in Hebrews
chapter 13, Hebrews chapter 13, in verse 17, He says, obey them that have
the rule over you and submit yourselves for they watch for
your souls as they that must give account that they may do
it with joy and not with grief for that is unprofitable for
you. I know why a lot of people read
that verse, why a lot of pastors read that verse. But I want us
to look at the last part of that passage there. says that they
watch for your souls as they that must give account, we answer
to a higher authority. In fact, I thank God for church
authority, but you know, there's an authority even higher than
church authority, and that is the Lord. He is the head of this
church, and every pastor that I have learned to respect over
the years, understands that we're here for the glory of God, for Christ's
pleasure. That's why we're here. We're
working for the Lord. In Ephesians chapter three, Ephesians
chapter three, in verse 21, Unto him be glory in the church
by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end, amen. Oh, I don't believe that we ought
to even push the broom in this building for this church without
thinking about it, without thinking about this and considering this.
But how much more so to be here in the high honor of of serving
the Lord as pastor. Somebody said, well, would you
like to be president of the United States or king of the world?
No, no, because I don't believe there's any higher office than
to be pastor of one of the Lord's churches. To the glory of God,
to the glory of God. Secondly, we are, The ministry
to care for the spiritual needs of the people over in the book
of Acts chapter six, Acts chapter six. Beginning verse one, look at
what happened there with the first church. And in those days when the number
of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the
Grecians against the Hebrews. because their widows were neglected
in their daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude
of the disciples unto them and said, It is not reason that we
should leave the word of God and serve tables. Wherefore,
brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full
of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this
business. But we will give ourselves continually
to prayer and to the ministry of the word. We see a great principle here. Certainly, pastors are not apostles,
and I understand that. But we see what was happening
there at the church at Jerusalem. And a pastor ought not to be
above pushing a broom or mowing the grass. You understand that. And certainly, I'm not above
doing any of that sort of thing. But that should not be his focus.
His focus ought to be on the spiritual needs of the church.
And we see what was happening here. There were physical needs
that needed to be taken care of. They were legitimate needs.
And so in order to make sure that everything was taken care
of, that's where the deacons came in. so that these men could
give themselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of
the word. Over in 1 Peter chapter 5, in
1 Peter chapter 5, You know, we don't have deacons
here, but I'm thankful. Everybody here chips in with
what they're able to do, and I really don't have to think
about much of anything physically as far as the church goes. I
mean, between the folks who are here and my kids chip in even,
you know, from the youngest to the oldest and everybody in between. I thank the Lord for that. Maybe
one of these days we'll go to a point where we can have some
deacons, but right now, I mean, praise the Lord. God is good. 1 Peter chapter 5 and verses
1 through 3, it says, the elders which are among you I exhort
who am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and
also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed. By the
way, that word elder is another word for pastor. Feed the flock
of God, which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by
constraint, but willingly, not for filthy lucre, but of a ready
mind, neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being
ensembles to the flock. Through his example in preaching,
he is He is to feed the flock spiritually. I don't understand. There are churches out there
who claim that they don't want or need a pastor. I don't understand
that. I don't understand it at all.
It's proof that they haven't really studied out their Bibles
and read them, but certainly I pray for them and hope that
the Lord will raise up a pastor for those churches. Pastors have been called in the
ministry to preach the word. Let's not overcomplicate this.
In 2 Timothy chapter four, in 2 Timothy chapter four, verses one and two, he says,
I charge thee therefore before God And the Lord Jesus Christ,
who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing in
his kingdom, preach the word. Be instant in season, out of
season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. Oh, we're not to get up here
and give motivational speeches or to give political talks, but
we're to preach the word. That's what's needed in our day.
That's what's needed more than anything. Preach the word. Are there other passages which indicate
that there's a call to preach, a call into the ministry? Well, yes, there are. In Acts
chapter 20, Acts chapter 20 and verse 28, Take heed therefore unto yourselves
and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made
you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased
with his own blood. So, so Paul writing under inspiration,
or sorry, Luke writing under inspiration of spirit, recording
here, This from Paul, he says to the
Ephesian elders, take heed to yourselves, to all the flock
over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers. I've circled that word made.
You know, there's a lot of mama made, grandpa made and daddy
made and self made preachers out there. But what we need are
God called preachers, God called pastors. That's what we need.
Because I tell you, they're the ones who will stand when things
get tough. They're the ones who will preach
the word regardless of what the world does. They're the ones
who won't sell out. They're the ones who'll be there
when they're most needed. Tom Ross in his commentary on
the Book of Acts said, the importance of the pastor's responsibility
is further emphasized when you realized who it is that appoints
him to the office. The Holy Ghost is the one who
calls and appoints men to be spiritual overseers of the Lord's
churches. The Holy Spirit acts as the divine
administrator within the church, He is the one who moves upon
the hearts of God's people, empowering them for service and enabling
them to make the right decisions. It is the work and leadership
of the Holy Spirit that gives the members of the Lord's churches
the ability to discern the Lord's will as revealed in His Holy
Word. The title overseer is interchangeable
with the words elder, pastor, and bishop. An overseer has the
responsibility of caring for the spiritual needs of the Lord's
church. And we see the main responsibility
is to feed the flock, the church of the Lord Jesus
Christ. is to be fed wholesome and nourishing
meals from the Word of God. One of the great errors today
is neglect in this. Oh, a pastor needs to understand,
and the church needs to understand as well, there are no shortcuts
in this. There are no shortcuts. This is why we must have the
opportunity to give ourselves to prayer and to the ministry
of the word. In 2 Timothy chapter two, 2 Timothy
chapter two and verse 15. Study to show thyself approved
unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing
the word of truth. You see? Study, study to show
thyself approved unto God. Anybody that's been a pastor,
anybody that's been married to a pastor, you know, and children of pastors, you know
that there's a lot more time of study given than what actually comes out
in the sermon. Maybe hours and hours of study.
compared to a 30 or 45 minute sermon. And again, no shortcuts. Sometimes that means the pastor
may have to turn down something or not be able to go somewhere
when invited. I had to work all week and Saturday,
Brother Barry invited me to go over to Waycross to a car show. And I said, oh, I better not.
I better not. I haven't had a lot of time to
study, and I need to spend some time with family too. You've
got to know your limits as a pastor. Not like there's a microwave. You can throw it in the microwave
and get the sermon out real quick. Not like that. Not like that
at all. It's important. It's very important. And in John chapter 21, John
chapter 21, verse 15, So when they had dined, Jesus
saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me
more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord,
thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest
thou me? He saith unto him, yea, Lord,
thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time,
Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because
he said unto him the third time, lovest thou me? And he said unto
him, Lord, thou knowest all things. Thou knowest that I love thee.
Jesus saith unto him, feed my sheep. One of the ways that a
pastor shows his love for the Lord is by making sure that the
sheep, the flock, are fed. Well, there's a couple other passages
that we wanna look at here as we think about Nicole into the
ministry. In 1 Timothy chapter one, 1 Timothy
chapter one and verse 12, 1 Timothy 1 and verse 12, Paul said, and I thank Christ
Jesus, our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful,
putting me into the ministry. Paul said, I thank God, I thank
Christ Jesus, our Lord. He put me in the ministry. Over in the book of Colossians
chapter one, Colossians chapter one, in verse 25, Colossians 1 in
verse 25. Whereof I am made a minister
according to the dispensation of God, which is given to me
for you to fulfill the word of God. God made him a minister. Now
I know someone told me before that these passages don't apply
because Paul was an apostle. It could apply to his apostleship,
but it could also apply to him being a preacher. Either way,
according to Ephesians 4, our text, they're both from God. They're both from God. Pastors,
preachers, teachers, from the Lord. Over in 1 Timothy chapter three.
1 Timothy chapter three. I'm gonna bring this to a close.
Begin at verse one. 1 Timothy 3, beginning at verse
one. This is a true saying, if a man
desired the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop
then must be blameless, the husband of one wife. Vigilant, sober,
of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach, not given to wine,
no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler,
not covetous, one that ruleth well his own house, having his
children in subjection with all gravity. For if a man know not
how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church
of God? Not a novice, lest being lifted
up with pride, he fall into condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must
have a good report of them which are without, lest he fall into
reproach and the snare of the devil. If a man desired the office of
a bishop, who puts that desire there? I believe that's God.
But not always. Some men desire it because they
think of the glamour. They think they can bring something
to the title. They think they can bring something
to the Lord's church in and of themselves. But that's why examination
must be made. That's why the church must get
involved in examining that call. And if a man comes, says that
he has desire to be pastor. Watch this
now. Ask him. Ask him about his salvation. And ask him about his call to
preach. And if he can't tell you about
those two things, you know, you know, he's not been called to
pastor. examine him in the light of the
scriptures as far as the qualification goes i believe that the holy spirit
works in the lives of men but i also believe the holy spirit
works in the lives of churches too and so we've got to always
be in this book We've always got to be understanding and discerning
of what's going on. These are given so that we can
understand. And as we look around this world
and we see so many churches and we see some, it doesn't seem
like there's very many preachers being called. It doesn't seem
like there's very many pastors and that sort of thing. God knows what he's doing, but
I tell you what, over in Luke chapter 10, I was gonna close
with the other passage there, but Luke chapter 10, verses one through three, look
at what he says here. After these things, the Lord
appointed other 70 also, sent them two and two before his face
into every city and place, whither he himself would come, therefore
said, He unto them, the harvest truly is great, but the labors
are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of
the harvest that he would send forth labors into his harvest. Go your ways, behold, I send
you forth as lambs among wolves. Pray, pray the Lord of the harvest. that he would send forth laborers
into his harvest. Pray that God would raise up
men who are not ashamed of the word of God, men that are bold,
men that are courageous, men who will stand in these evil
times that we live. May God add a blessing to his
people.
