Certainty in Uncertain Times

49

The disciples had it all planned out! On the first Palm Sunday, Jesus, riding into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, proclaimed Himself to be the Messiah, the coming King of Israel. And Jesus had earlier promised his disciples that in His kingdom, they would reign beside him on twelve thrones. So, this must be the time for Him to establish His kingdom! But in the upper room, the disciples' plan begin to unravel. Jesus makes three unsettling statements: 1) One of you is going to betray me; 2) Where I am going, you cannot come; and 3) Peter will deny me three times. The disciples were left with troubled hearts-- hearts filled with anxiety, uncertainty, confusion, and fear. Jesus asks them to simply TRUST HIM. To quiet their fears and calms their hearts, Jesus reveals three certain truths for uncertain times-- truths that one can count on when the bottom drops out in life. The first is the certainty of HEAVEN! This sermon explores the reality of heaven and the benefits of being heavenly minded while here on earth.
