Christianity and the Class Struggle (2)

21

The class struggle is real. Powerful people have oppressed the weak since the start. Politicians approve laws from which they are exempt. The rich drag the poor into court (James 2:6). Bigger children bully those smaller than them. All of us are tempted to get ahead at the expense of others.

"Is it then conceivable that the Christian religion, when it went out into the world, should take no stand against a state of affairs so wrong" (25)? Is it a coincidence that God sent Christ into the world under an empire whose population comprised millions of enslaved people? In what sense did the "light in Bethlehem" and the "dying cry from Golgotha" impact the world's class struggle?

The Christian must confront injustice empowered by Jesus and following in the footsteps of Jesus.
