The Holy Spirit as the Comforter of Christ's People - 15

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." John 14:16-17

I. The Need for the Comforter
A. God's people need comfort because of their sorrows.
B. God's people need comfort because of their sins.
C. God's people need comfort because of Satan.
D. God's people need comfort because of their lack of strength.

II. The Nature of the Spirit's Ministry of Comfort
A. He comforts by teaching us the truth of His Word.
B. He comforts us by sanctifying us.
C. He comforts us by enabling us to see evidences that we are God's people.

III. The Nurturing of the Spirit's Comfort
-- The degree of our comfort is directly related to the degree we make use of the means of grace.
