Asking or Commanding
Series Epistolary Examples
35
From Paul's example in Titus we learn that examples are not a sufficient way to learn godly communication; that when a negative evaluation is to be given unimpeachable witnesses are helpful; and that the minister of the Gospel is called to communicate even with those who can be evaluated very negatively indeed. From Philemon we learn that there are times when it is better to ask than to command, even if commanding is a legitimate option, and that where a relationship is secure a request for help is a matter of course.
