The Marriage Covenant, A Call to Faithfulness

With a low view of God, the priests, spiritual leaders of the nation of Israel, failed to live out and teach about the holiness of God, the deadliness of sin, and the need for a substitutionary sacrifice. The ministry of God’s truth was being compromised in public worship through lame, sick, and blind animals. This in no way represented the coming of the Spotless Lamb of God. This compromise of the doctrine of God was carried into the home. This is where we pick up today. As the LORD of Heaven’s Armies thunders from heaven through the prophet Malachi, He sees a people who are truthless, faithless, and ruthless where there should be covenant (or steadfast) love and compassion. Today, our title will be “The Marriage Covenant: A Call to Faithfulness.” The marriage covenant was under attack and once again the spiritual leaders failed to see the Second Adam, the Glorious Bridegroom, and His pure sacrificial love for His bride. I would like to share three reasons to remain faithful and avoid divorce: 1) The Permanence of Marriage 2) The Pain of Betrayal and 3) the Picture of Jesus Christ and His Bride. This is the bedrock of humanity and it is under attack.
