The Way of Faith
Ruth 1:6-22 (Part 1)

Introduction: a journey from the “country” of Moab to the “land” of Judah

The Moabite widow turned her back on all that was familiar and secure, and with incredible faith, stared into an uncertain future. With her declaration in v. 16- ‘Your people shall be my people, and your God my God’, she gave voice to her emotional and spiritual reorientation. She likely did not have a depth of understanding of true Yahwehistic faith, but she repudiated the gods of Moab and cast herself on Yahweh, the God of Israel. It is difficult to imagine a more dramatic illustration of conversion.—Daniel Block

I. A Difficult Way

For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life … Matt. 7:14

II. A Sacrificial Way

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. Mark 10:29-31

III. A Lonely Way

… the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matt. 7:14

IV. The Cost of the Way

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. Luke 9:23-24

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Luke 14:28
