The scene overflows with God's kind, abundant provision through Boaz, and it sets up the expectation to see how this encounter of Ruth and Boaz might develop. Ruth returns to Naomi, carrying about an ephah of barley (over 5 gallons), along with the leftovers from lunch. It is a rich and overflowing scene—first with the food and grain, and finally with the amazing news of the source of all this abundance.
