chapter number six tonight, Luke
chapter number six. Luke chapter number six, when
you get there, if you'll stand in honor and reverence of the
word of God. I was going to have an outline up for you tonight,
but my computer failed me. And so if you're a note taker,
this may be a little bit more of a difficult message, but I'll
try to help you out as much as I can. And don't sigh when I
say this. I got a lot of information to
give you, but remember what I would say, or preachers would say,
if you listen fast, I'll preach fast. Now I told you, I don't
know what that means, so I'm just gonna preach fast whether you listen
fast or not. I'll preach fast, so you just get it all in, all
right? Luke chapter number six, verse number 46. Luke six. Find verse 46. Now, the context of this, Jesus
has just got done preaching, and he's given them a lot of
information. And I want you to notice what he says in verse
number 46. And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things
Now I know what you're thinking, preacher, this is a Sunday morning
message. No, this is a Sunday night message. Now what I mean
by that is, a lot of times on Sunday night, the core of the
church is here and I understand that, but this type of message says,
Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say. Whosoever cometh
to me and heareth my sayings and doeth them, I will show you
to whom he is like. He is like a man which built
an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock. And when the flood arose, the
stream beat vehemently upon the house, and could not shake it,
for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth and doeth
not is like a man without a foundation, built an house upon the earth,
According to Matthew, that would be the sand against which the
stream did beat vehemently and immediately it fell. And the
ruin of that house was great. Lord, I ask God that you'd help
us tonight. Lord, would you challenge us from your word? Not just to
be hearers. but God to be doers. Lord, we
love you in your name, we pray, amen. You can be seated. I've
spoken this riddle before, most of you know it, and that's a
good thing because if you do know it, I need you to give me
the answer, all right? Five frogs are on a log, remember
me saying that before? Five frogs are on a log, four
decide to jump off, how many are left? Somebody help me. Got some of you, okay. Most,
everybody's heard me say that before, and those who know it,
the answer is five, all right? Five are still on the log, and
here's why, all right? They made a decision, but just
because they made a decision does not mean that they actually
jumped off the log, all right? So the five frogs are still on
the log, even though they made a decision to do it, but it doesn't
mean that they actually did it, all right? There's a big difference
in deciding and doing. There's a big gap between deciding
to do something and actually doing it. There's a big difference
in reading and doing. There's a big difference in hearing
preaching and teaching and doing. Y'all follow me? I want you to look with me. The
key of this parable that Jesus just gave is found in verse number
46. Why call me Lord, Lord? and do
not do not the things that I say. In other words, you've heard
what I've said. You've read the Bible. You've
heard the preaching. You've heard the teaching. But
somewhere along the way, when you leave me, you're not doing
what I'm telling you to do. And I want to preach to you tonight
on this. The principle of application. The principle of application. When he says, Lord, Lord, that
word in our text refers to someone who's in the position of a master.
It is a servant-master relationship. It's characterized by a servant
who literally surrenders himself to the orders of a master. In
fact, what is a good servant who does not listen to the master
when he tells him what to do? Jesus wants the people that's
following Him to apply what they had just heard. Unless they surrender
to His words, they had no right, no right to call Him Lord. By the way, I believe this is
the reason why so many people have difficulty with the Word
of God. It's not reading it. It's not hearing it. But they
have not surrendered themselves. They've not submitted themselves
to the authority of the Word of God. They can't call him Lord
because they refuse to obey the Word of God. The parable distinguishes
between hearing and doing. By the way, I think we got a
lot of people that hear. I do, I think we got a lot of people.
But I think there may be a gap of hearing versus doing. By the way, hearing is the easy
part. Doing takes a little bit more work now. Let me let me
give you a couple things. I'm gonna try to break down This
outline as best as I can. I know you don't have things
up on the screen But number one, I want to show you the prerequisites
the prerequisites All right of the principles of application
their prerequisites first number 47. Look at what Jesus says he
says whosoever cometh to me and Hear my sayings and do it them.
I will show you to whom he's like so what is the first? Prerequisite
all right, so if you're taking an outline your Roman numeral
number one now you got a sub point number one what is the
prerequisite well the first one is this a person must come a
Person must come look what he says verse 47 whosoever cometh
to me By the way, this is the multitude and Everybody showed
up to hear Jesus. This guy's performing miracles.
This guy has healed people. This guy's teaching like no man
has ever taught. He teaches as one with authority.
So the multitude has showed up. Everybody showed up to hear Jesus.
By the way, when Jesus is doing good things, everybody wants
to show up. Everybody wants to show up. It's the multitude. The prerequisite, a person must
come. You got to come. Many came to hear the Lord speak.
There was a great crowd. They wanted to hear what the
miracle worker from Galilee, what he had to say. And by the
way, only those who come can receive the words that he has
to give. All right? You want to be fed? You got to
show up to the table. You got to come. Listen. You
ain't gonna know what God tells you to do if you don't come to
the Bible. I mean, this is simple. I'm gonna be real simple with
y'all tonight, all right? You can't get fed if you don't come
to church. You can't get fed if you don't
ever open your Bible. Jesus' first prerequisite, listen,
if you're gonna be like the guy who has a really good foundation
and a really good life, the life represents the house, if all
that's, he said, first thing, you just gotta come. He says,
you gotta come to me, that's the first thing. By the way,
I believe that was the whole multitude that came, all right?
Only those who come to him can receive the words that he has
to give. However, simply coming to him does not equate application. This is only the first criteria
that has to be met. This is just showing up, all
right? That's easy. Step number one,
you just gotta show up. You just gotta show up, all right? Prerequisite,
a person must come. That's the multitude. Number
two, a person must comprehend. Notice what he says in verse
number 47. Whosoever cometh to me, now notice the next phrase
he says, and heareth my sayings. and heareth my sayings. This word hereth, you study that
word here, that actually literally means to comprehend what's being
said. A person must not only come to
the Lord, but they must understand what has been spoken. The word
hereth means to hear with an ear of comprehension. So I believe,
by the way, that You have the multitude that came, but now
you've got the majority that comprehends. By the way, the
multitude is bigger than the majority. I'm talking everybody
showed up, but now you're reducing it down to the majority actually
comprehended what he had to say. Multitude came to him, the majority
heard and understood him. So now the crowd is reducing
from everybody to now the majority. By the way, when I talk about
hearing, we talk about comprehending, we're talking about understanding,
okay? This is what separates the differences
in the willingness to study your Bible and dig for truth and walking
away from it not knowing what you just read. That's the difference. Because now, listen, what we're
doing is, so now you showed up, now you're gonna read, but if
you don't understand what you just read, why'd you read? He
says, you gotta comprehend. He says, you have to hear, hear,
comprehend what I'm telling you. And by the way, in 2024, don't
walk away from your Bible without understanding what you just read.
You've got access to so many, and by the way, not every tool
is great, but you've got access to thousands of tools that'll
help an ignorant preacher like me from the hills of Virginia
to understand the Bible. Please don't walk away in 2024
not knowing what you just read. Say, why preacher? Because you
shouldn't have picked up your Bible to begin with. Why'd you read it if you
ain't gonna dig to understand it? So he says, he's like, have
the ear come to me, hear my sayings. So a person must come, a person
must comprehend, these are prerequisites, but then number three, the third
prerequisite is this, a person must comply. Verse 47, whosoever
comes to me, you came to me, you hear, so you understood,
but notice the next one, and doeth them. A person must come, he must comprehend,
but also a person must comply. By the way, that's the minority.
So you go from multitude, that's everybody. Everybody showed up.
Then you reduce it down to the majority. Well, yeah, we understand
it. But when he says, oh, and by the way, you need to do it,
now it reduced it down to the minority. Reduced it down small. A person
must be willing to come, comprehend, and comply if he wants to call
Jesus his Lord. In the context, people in the
crowd had submitted to what they just heard and they understood
in order to be his servant they need to comply. The crowd got
smaller. With that thought, Jesus proceeded
to move forward with a parable. Alright? So, He says, alright,
y'all that just heard it, and then you got those who comprehend.
He says, but those who are going to listen to me, those who are
actually going to comply and do what I tell you to do, He
says, now I'm going to compare you. I'm going to move forward.
In verse number 47, look at what He says, I will show you to whom
He is like. So I won't call time out. Man,
we can swing from the chandeliers, we can shout amen. Yeah, preacher,
I come to church. Yeah, my life's gonna be built
on the rock and all these great things. That's not what Jesus
is talking about. You can show up to church, you can read your
Bible, and not have a life founded upon the rock. He said, you want
this life? You have to do. Many people come
to church, read their Bible, but never apply it to their life,
never do it. Their life's a mess. You can do all these things.
Jesus said, it's more than that. He says, you're calling me Lord,
but you're not even doing what I'm telling you to do. We call
ourselves Christians and believers, but yet we read our Bible. We
don't apply. I dare say a lot of us don't even do that. Come
on, y'all. You know I'm telling the truth
tonight. I know it's getting quiet. He says you got to do. And so
these are prerequisites. You have to come, all right?
You have to comprehend. You have to comply. But let me
give you number two. The prerequisites, number one. Number two, the principles. He's going to move forward. He's
like, all right, you're going to listen to me? I'm going to compare.
I'm going to show you what you're like. There's some principles.
There's two men here that have built a house. One falls, one
stands. We're going to pull the principles.
I don't care about the principles of the man who didn't do it right.
I'm interested in the principles of the man who did do it right.
So let's look at the principles of him. Jesus is going to contrast
these two individuals. One is going to represent a man
who heard and applied God's word, and the other is going to represent
a man who only heard, but he didn't do. Y'all, the guy that
built his house upon the sand and it fell, he wasn't an unbeliever.
He wasn't a wicked individual. He wasn't, I'm sure he was probably
a church-going, religious individual. He probably read the word of
God. He read the law. He heard what Jesus had to say,
but the problem was this, he didn't do it. That's the difference. You can be a religious individual
and your life be a mess because you don't obey the Bible. You
don't do it. So he says, let's pull out some
principles from this guy who did. This guy met the criteria. He came, he comprehended, he
complied. His house represents his life. It's the foundation
of someone who actually obeys the word. They don't just read
it, but they obey it. We need to learn from his principles.
What'd this guy do? Let me show you this. What are some of the principles?
I wanna show you first one, the man's plan. The man's plan. Look
with me in verse number 48. He is like a man, notice this
phrase, which built an house. Both men are building a house.
Both men are building their lives. This man planned to build a house
on a sure foundation. By the way, if you're gonna build
a house, you gotta plan it. So he's gonna build a house, and
where he builds his house, he's got to plan it out. And can I
say this tonight? We only have one life to build.
We only get one chance to do it. We need to examine our plans. Simply ask yourself this tonight.
Is God's word a part of your life? Can I ask you a little,
can I go one step further? Is God's word gonna be a part of
your day tomorrow? Is it gonna be a part of your week next week?
Have you planned out He said, I'm building a house. My life
has to be built on the obedience of the Word of God. Have we factored
God's truth into our plans? Are we trying to build our life
on our opinions, on our thoughts, on what I want to do? Or are
we building it upon the obedience of the Word of God? He planned
to build a house. By the way, like the house, a
strong and solid life doesn't just happen. It takes planning
and preparation. It takes planning. You've got to plan it. By the
way, let me throw this out there. A godly life, y'all, ain't gonna
happen by accident. A godly life don't just happen.
It's not one of those things that you just get into a routine
of church-going people, and you just, out comes a godly life.
No. He said, I'm gonna build a house.
There's some planning that takes place. If you're gonna live a
godly life, you need to plan, and it comes from obedience to
the Word of God. This guy was a planner, and principles, the
man's plan. Let me give you the second principle, the man's priority.
Look again at verse number 48. He's like a man which built a
house, there's the planning, but notice this, and digged deep
and laid the foundation on a rock. You know what his priority was?
A good foundation. See, the other guy just built.
He said, but there's a priority here. I've got to dig. I've got
to find some bedrock. I've got to put this thing on
some good foundation. He didn't start from the top,
but he started from the bottom. The very first thing he did was
he dug for a foundation. He understood the imperative
nature of the foundation, and so he digs deep to find the solid
rock to put his house upon. God is telling us, Jesus is telling
us that a person who puts God's word into action, not just hearing,
but he understands the priorities of life. This guy understood
this. He said, listen, if I don't dig
deep, I've got to put my house on the rock. Jesus is comparing
somebody who bathes the Bible to somebody who digs deep and
puts their house on a rock. He understood the priority of
digging and getting on the foundation. So my question is this, is this
a priority in your life? Is it a priority? Not just reading
it, obedience to it. Is it a priority? The house will
only be as good as the foundation. The foundation is the stability
and the strength of the structure. The man realized this fundamental
fact, therefore he digs deep into the ground and looks for
the solid rock. Nothing else could take place. Jesus said,
you're like this man. You obey the word of God. You
understand you have to prioritize the foundation. So we see the
man's plan, build a house, the man's priorities. I got to dig
to the foundation. But then I want to show you the
third principle, the man's price. The man's price. If you're any type of builder,
you know this, the right kind of foundation comes with a cost.
A house with a solid foundation is more expensive, obviously,
than a house if you didn't put a foundation. Now, in today's
world, you can't do it. But back then, you could really
do whatever you wanted. And building a foundation or
establishing a foundation takes more time, it takes more money,
it takes more energy, it takes more effort, and there's more
challenges to face. Digging deep to the foundation
is not an easy task. But it's vital for the stability
of the structure. We're understanding that the
foundation is not necessarily God's Word. Listen, the foundation
is not God's Word. I'm not blaspheming, listen to
me. Obedience to God's Word is the foundation. This does you no good sitting
on the shelf. He says it's the obedience to
it. That is the foundation. Therefore, building a strong
life, we must be willing to pay the cost of having the right
foundation. A life that applies God's Word
will only exist when the price has been paid. You say, preacher,
what's the price? I'm just going to tell you up
front. It's going to cost you some things to obey this. It's
going to cost you some things. It's going to cost you some sleep.
It's going to cost you to prioritize some of your time. It's going
to cost you. It may cost you some friendships. It's going
to cost you some things. This guy understood. He said,
listen, it's worth the price. It's worth the digging. It's
worth finding the rock because I know a storm is coming any
day. So I have to pay the price. I'm
willing to exert the energy, if you will. I ask myself, why would somebody
put so much time, energy, money, effort into the foundation? And
if you're taking notes, I'm sorry, they're all scattered, but let
me tell you why. The reason this guy's going to
pay the price, this principle of paying the price, the reason
for it, the reason he's willing to dig and exert energy, well,
verse number 48 says there's a stream. Look at verse number
48. And when the flood arose, You know Jesus doesn't say if
the flood arose. He said when. Flood's coming. The stream beat vehemently. Not if, but when. In other words,
in our life, things can change dramatically in the instant.
Things can change without warning. The bright cloudless day of sunshine
can be hammered with raging waters of fury. Suddenly and quickly,
out of a moment's time, this house begins to be beat. The
Bible says the water beat vehemently upon the house. The word beat
literally means to burst, to pound with intense pressure and
force. It wasn't just an ordinary storm. It was danger and it was
dangerous to say the least. The flood not only brought fast
flowing water, but it brings fear, it brings dread, it brings
terror to those who are in its path. See, this guy said, listen,
it's worth to pay the price because there's a flood coming. I don't
know about you, but when the storm rages, I like to know that
I'm in a house that's going to make it through the storm. When
the storm comes, I want to know that there's some promises that
I can stand on that's going to carry me through the storm. The
stream, so there's a stream, but I'll look at the structure.
Verse 48, he says this. He says, He's like a man which
built the house, digged deep, laid the foundation of the rock. When
the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently. Now notice it is
upon that house and could not shake it. The structure was unshakable. The word shake means to move
with uncertainty. It has the idea of to topple
over. It speaks of instability and insecurity. Although the
storm was raging and the flood was vehemently, the house was
strong and settled, it was secure. Listen to me, this is why Christians
ought to build their life on the Word of God. Obedience. Storm's
coming, y'all. A lot of y'all have been through
many storms in your life. You know it to be true. It's not
if, it's when. And what will help you is not
just reading, but the principle of application in your life.
You know why so many, a lot of the old timers have made it through
some of their storms? Because they've built their life
on the obedience of the Word of God. The stream, the structure. But then look at the stone, verse
48. He's like a man which built a house and digged deep, laid
the foundation on a rock. And when the flood arose, the stream
beat vehemently upon the house and could not shake it. Why?
For it was founded upon a rock. Jesus is giving the difference
between those who simply heard and those who made application
to what they heard. It's the difference between hearers
and doers. Can I tell you this world can
change quickly. But I was reminded in Psalms
it is. I think it's Psalm 117 maybe
it's 119. This world can change. We know
the psalmist said he said thy word is settled. In other words,
you know it's not going to change even though the world may change
and our lives may change and things may change. He said there
is something in heaven that will not change. It is the Word of
God. And can I tell you, I want to
be standing on something that will make it through the storm.
Principles. The prerequisites. You come,
they heard, and then they complied. Then we see this, the principles
of this man, his plan, his priority. His price. Let me give you number
three, the peril. I'm moving quickly, number three,
the peril. Look at the guy who didn't do it right. We see a
man who planned, he prioritized, he paid the price, but then Jesus
is gonna tell us about the man who experienced a completely
different result when the flood came. By the way, please understand,
this ain't people out in the world. Now it can be, but he
says this is what will be the difference for you of actually
obeying and not just hearing. You just to hear, storm's coming,
your life's gonna be a failure. But when you obey, it's gonna
stay strong. The guy who didn't, the pair, let me give you a couple
things. Number one, his listening. Verse number 49, his listening.
But he that heareth and doeth not. I believe this guy was a
good listener. He was probably those people
who could have sat on the front row at the Baptist church. He
could have shouted an amen during the preaching. He could have
showed up to connect group or Sunday school. He could have
showed up to the teaching. He was a real good listener. But the problem is when he walked
out the door, When he left his book, his devotional in the morning,
there was never no application. His listening, he's characterized
by being a hearer of the Word of God. He's likened to a man
who hears the truth of God, but refuses to make application.
Such a person builds his life with no stability or security. By the way, I know this is a
broad statement, but I believe a large number of believers do
this. They listen or read but they never apply. You say preacher
why is that we've got more gospel preaching and teaching right
now than we've ever had in the history of humanity. You get on your
computer right now and listen to you could listen to over 100
preachers right now being live streamed anywhere you're as long
as your Internet access the radio there's preaching. There is a
you can go to Walmart right now and buy your Bible. It ain't
because we don't have access to it. It's everywhere. In the
history of, listen, the history of mankind, we've never had access
to the teaching and preaching and exposition of the Word of
God like we do right now. But I'm in dangerous fear that
we listen, but we don't obey. We've got Bible colleges, Bible
study groups, cadet groups, seminaries. We've got all these things and
they're great. Our culture does not suffer from a lack of hearing,
it suffers from a lack of application. And the man's parable, this man
in the parable represents a large majority of people who hear,
but they fail to heed his listening. But let me give you number two,
under the peril his labor. Verse 49, look at what he says.
Jesus says, he that heareth is a good listener, but he don't
do it, he doth not, is like a man without a foundation, built a
house upon the earth. You know, I think the saddest
thing about this guy's life is he worked hard. He built a house
too. He worked hard. He labored. By
the way, this guy's house could have been just as good as the
other guy's house. It could have been a better house.
It could have looked a lot nicer. He was not an evil man. There's
nothing in the text that tells us he was slothful or he was
lazy. But the problem is he built a
life on the wrong foundation. His house became a subject to
the changes of the earth and the sand that shifted. Although
he intensely labored, he built the home, his labor was in vain. Will you do me a favor? Will
you just throw something in your Bible and go to Psalm 127 for me? Many of you know exactly what
I'm getting ready to read. Psalm 127. Psalm 127. Church, this really spoke to
me. Because we can all come in here,
and we can all hear it, and we can all amen, and we can even
read it, but God is very clear. He says, if you don't obey the
Bible, your life is going to be a wreck. I mean, this shook
me. I've done a lot of hearing. I
was a drug baby. I was drug to church since I
was in the womb. I've heard a lot of good stuff. I've read a lot
of good stuff. But am I doing it? Am I applying
it? I am susceptible to having a
failed life. This man worked hard. Look with
me in Psalm 127. Except. That means unless. Except the Lord build the house,
they labor in vain that build it. So you can go back to Luke. So I asked myself, alright. How
many of y'all think everybody would agree with me? How many
of you want the Lord to build your house? Some of you do, some of you don't
care. I want the Lord to build my house. I do, I want Him to
build it. Now, there's labor involved. It says there's labor. You set the Lord to build the
house, then it's labor in vain. If I want God to build my house,
I need to know what God says. But it ain't going to do me any
good to know what God says if I don't listen to what God says.
When I open up the Word of God, God has statutes and commandments
and laws and principles for my life. God wants to build my life. He wants to put it on the foundation.
But if I don't listen to it, He says, you're laboring in vain.
If God's going to do it, we've got to listen to what He has
to say. Lord can't build the house when we don't obey the
Lord in applying his word. The peril of this man was his
listening. He was a good listener. He was a laborer. He worked hard.
But then I want you to notice his loss. Verse number 49 says
this, against which the stream did beat vehemently, just like
the other guy, and immediately it fell. Many good, noble people
have worked at building a life only to see that life fall because
they never applied the truths of God's word. When the fall
takes place, there's no excuse to be given. I think it's so sad because they
knew the truth. They heard it. Remember, they're
hearers. We knew how to do it, God. Listen, I think some of
the people who have totally ruined their life sat underneath some
godly preaching and read some Bible in their day. They knew
it. We got religious people tonight.
They know more Bible than you can think. Listen, they'll forget
more Bible than I'll ever know. They know it on the inside and
out, but the problem is they don't apply it. They got a lot
of head knowledge, but it never made its way to the heart. And
they'll ruin their life. He says it fell immediately. His loss. But then lastly, I want you to notice his legacy.
Verse 49, I'll be done. And immediately it fell. Now
notice what Jesus, this is Jesus speaking, and the ruin of that
house was great. This word ruin is interesting.
It's not so, the house fell. He's not re-explaining what he
just said. The word ruin is the leftovers
of the house after it fell. In other words, Jesus said there
was so much debris. I believe it was a big house,
great house, wonderful house. He said, but the ruins is the
leftovers. He says the ruin was great. It
speaks of the fragments that were left after the fall. It
is a picture of this man's testimony. It's his legacy. People would
come and they would see the fragments of this home and realize it was
at that point that they realized, man, this guy didn't put the
house on the foundation. By the way, his whole life, he
could have appeared to have his life on the foundation. Nobody
ever knew it. Why? Because the foundation's
below. It's not being seen. In other words, they faked it.
Y'all know what I'm talking about? He's real good at faking it.
He had everybody fooled. Man, that guy had a big house.
Only to when it fell, well it was never on a foundation. Great was the ruin. Great was
all the pieces. This man's testimony was destroyed. Can I tell you, I don't think
there's anything that hurts Christianity worse is when people fall. People ruin
their testimony. They ruin their character. And can I tell you, when somebody
ruins their testimony, listen, it didn't just happen overnight.
They stopped obeying God's Word a long time ago. He says, great is the ruin. Great
are these fragments that are left around. This man ruined
his legacy. What is left after the storm
oftentimes tells the world what kind of foundation you've built
upon. What's left of you after you
go through the storm tells the world what you were built on. Did it take you out or was you
able to endure it because of the foundation that you were
upon? So my question to you tonight is this, what kind of house will
you leave behind? Better yet, what kind of life
are you building today? Have you laid your foundation upon
the solid rock of the obedience, not just God's Word, but the
obedience of God's Word? I would way rather, way rather
you read a half a chapter of God's Word and obey it than to
read four chapters to not even remember what you read. What kind of life are you building? Have you laid foundation upon
the solid rock of obedience of God's Word? Do you consistently
make application of His Word? Have you ensured your life with
the right kind of foundation? Can I tell you this? I believe
this. If I could sum up what Jesus said in these four verses. Why call ye me Lord, Lord? Listen. Can I just be unspiritual
for a moment? I've been there. I've called
Him Lord, Lord. And I didn't obey Him. And if
you're honest with me too, this is why you call me Lord, Lord,
and you do not the things which I say. If I could sum up these
four verses, I believe this is what Jesus is saying. Application
is important. Your life depends on it. That's
it. Application is important. Your
whole life depends on your obedience to this book. Principles of application. Y'all, there's more to this Christian
life than coming to church. Coming to church is great. I
love church. It's biblical. We should. But there's so much more than
that. The same God that gets you to shout, the same Holy Spirit
that gets you shouting in the choir, the same God that makes
you sing loud and hear is the same Holy Spirit that'll be with
you tomorrow. He'll be with you tomorrow. Listen,
you don't have to have the choir with you. You don't have to have
a preacher with you. Same God's going to go with you.
But are you going to listen to what He tells you to do? That's
the difference. Application's important. Your
life depends on it. Lord, we love You. Lord, I ask
God that You'd help us. Lord, we need to apply Your Word
to our life. Lord, it's vain. Lord, the book of James says
it's like we look in a mirror to fix what needs to be fixed,
but we just walk away without having fixed it. He says we deceive
ourselves. Lord, there was no point for us to come to church
tonight if we're not going to listen to the Word of God. Lord, there's
no point for us to read the Bible. Lord, many times we want to check
the box to ease our conscience, to make us feel better about
ourselves. But Lord, if we don't obey it, Lord, when that storm comes,
our life will be destroyed. So Lord, I ask God that you'd
stir my heart. Lord, would you stir my heart,
God, to obey the Word of God? Lord, I ask God, Lord, that you'd
stir your people's heart. Lord, maybe there's someone here
tonight Or they've abandoned Your Word. Maybe it's been a
long time since they've picked up the Bible. Lord, they've lost
their joy. They've lost their peace. They've
lost their comfort. Lord, I ask God that You'd stir
their heart tonight to get back not just to reading, but obeying.
Lord, I ask God that you would just help them to, Lord, that
the realization of, Lord, their life is susceptible. It's not
if, it's when, Lord, that their life will become a failure. What
a sad thing it would be to build a whole life only to when they
die that it was in vain because it was not on the right foundation.
Lord, I ask God that you'd help your people tonight. Lord, do
what only you can do. Lord, we love you. In your name
we pray.
