Genesis 41, 43 says, and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. And they cried before him, bow the knee. And he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. After seeing all of the other types and shadows of the life of Jesus found in the life of Joseph, it may come as no surprise to most of us to see this picture of everyone except the ancient Pharaoh himself, who serves as a type of God the Father here, bowing a knee to Joseph, who is a type of Jesus. And they cried before him, bow the knee. And he made him ruler over all. Let that sink in. This slave boy, Joseph, who was originally the next to the youngest son of a lowly shepherd named Jacob from a different country, has now been exalted to the highest position beneath Pharaoh. And God uses this to teach us about Jesus, as this foreshadows what the Apostle Paul told us about Jesus in Philippians 2, 9 through 11, where we read, Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. What an amazing similarity between Joseph and Jesus, and this type, as it plays out, was prophesied in Isaiah 45, 21 to 23. Listen carefully so that you hear that Jesus is speaking prophetically of himself through the words of the prophet Isaiah, beginning in verse 21. Tell ye, and bring them near. Yea, let them take counsel together. Who hath declared this from ancient time? Who hath told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord, and there is no God else beside me, a just God and a Savior? There is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. For I am God, and there is none else." Now listen, I have sworn by myself, the word has gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Unless there be any doubt, not only do we see the Apostle Paul point this type of Joseph and prophecy of Isaiah directly at Jesus in Philippians 2, but Paul also says this in Romans 14, 10-12, Verse 10 ends saying, for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. And then verses 11 and 12 say, for it is written, as I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God. And it's all a picture in the life of Jesus, back in Genesis. The Bible is an amazing book and it tells us plainly of our amazing Savior. But our faith and understanding and relationship with God grows when we also recognize not only those messianic prophecies in the Old Testament, which foretold about Jesus, but also teach us a lot about him. But when we recognize the types and shadows of scripture that also point to and teach about Jesus, and in some cases, like these types in Genesis, we're reading of things that were given nearly 1800 years before Jesus was born. When you think of the American Civil War and how that was a little more than 1800 years after Christ, And then realize that when we're reading about Joseph and Genesis, that happened about 1800 years before Christ. Isn't that amazing? Almost the same amount of time took place from Joseph to Jesus as it did from the crucifixion, resurrection, ascension of Jesus to the American Civil War. And I don't know about you, but I believe we're very near the time when the exalted Savior will rule and reign on the earth similar to the way Joseph ruled over Egypt and the nations of his day those many years ago. If you're not saved, you will bow in submission and suffer the penalty of having rejected Jesus as your Lord and Savior. But if you're saved, you'll bow in worship. And together, all of us who are His children will bow to Him, will bow the knee in worship, and we will enjoy His presence and His glory forever and ever and ever. Amen.
