The Change Is Real

194 ( 184 | 10 )

Our text records a continuing conflict between Christ and the religious leaders of Judaism, a conflict sustained by Jesus' aggressiveness.

The remarkable setting for this conflict is the Feast of the Tabernacles when Jesus announces, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life" (8:12). As Christ leaves the temple, we are reminded of what happens when the light goes into the world. Jesus approaches a blind man and gently spits upon the ground, then applies the damp clay to his eyes commanding Him to, "Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam." In his obedience, as he washes in Siloam, his eyes are opened, and he begins to see!

This is one of the miracles that remind us that Jesus is the source of our spiritual sight.
