Quieting Anxiety and Fear
Series Joseph: God's Good Purpose
390
One of the most disabling emotions in the human experience is anxiety. Anxiety fuels fear. Most people will do whatever it takes to quell anxiety in life. They keep life busy for fear of slowing down and facing their troubled existence. Often, distract themselves with counterfeit forms of life - a job, a person, a position, materialism, and recreation are just a few of these forms. Still others are so empty that nothing stops the pain. So they seek relief through various disabling and enslaving addictions in order to feel alive. These include drugs, alcohol, serial adultery, pornography, spending, eating, and countless other things. All of this nags at the conscience.
