So as we go along, we do that
a little bit. Hey, you guys, we've been together now here
for a couple of years now, and then some of you a little longer
than that, and 20 years or so. And so you understand, so that
if you've been with us for all that time, you can look back
and you can see how we went deep into the Word of God. So then
as we've been here, there's some of you that are new and you come
along and you're like, man, I've never heard this before. And
I've never heard these things. And man, that's pretty heavy
and things like that. And the reason for that is because
there's been people that's been with me for 20 years. And so
we've been deep in this book before, and so every now and
then they need stuff like that that maybe you can't fully understand. So as a new convert, he's not
or she's not going to understand a lot of the deep things of the
Word of God. But don't let that discourage
you. Just hang in there and stay patient, and eventually God will
show you these things. So anyhow, let's take our Bibles
tonight, Hebrews chapter 13. And we're just going to read
the first couple of verses for our text, and then, of course,
you'll understand where we're going after that. In Hebrews
chapter 13, verse number 1, the Bible said, They've entertained angels unawares. So what we're going to talk about
tonight, just spend a little time in the Word of God. If you'll
keep your Bible handy, we'll turn to several passages and
we want to talk about angels tonight. The Bible has a lot
to say about angels. Angels is from Genesis to Revelation. I mean, it's just packed full
of talking about angels. If you read your Bible through
in a year or you have read your Bible through, you know that
the Bible mentions a lot about angels and their existence. Some
people don't believe that angels really exist. Some believe they're
just a myth. But those are the ones that don't
believe the Bible, or they're those that just correct the Bible.
But I believe the Bible tonight, don't you? And if the Bible says
that something's real, then I believe it's real. And the Bible does
say that angels are real, so we're gonna believe that angels
are real. So from Genesis to Revelation
in your King James Bible, the word angel or angels appears
297 times. That's a lot of times to talk
about something that doesn't exist, wouldn't you say? And
so angels do exist. Today, people have been more
fascinated, more and more, should I say, fascinated with angels.
I mean, people have angels as one of their whatnots on their
shelves and in their living room and their house and all that,
and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with those things. I don't
have a problem with that, but I'm just saying that people are
fascinated with angels and their interpretation of what an angel
is. I mean, according to the Bible, an angel doesn't have
wings. And I mean, every angel that shows up in the Bible, they
have no wings. They show up as a male, as a
male. And so everybody has their interpretation,
but we got to go back to what the Bible says an angel is. So people are fascinated with
it. They're fascinated with nowadays, I guess, because of Hollywood
and because of movies and the movie industry. And then, of
course, people's hearts for the most part. They go towards vampires
and witches and warlocks and stuff like that. And they're
just fascinated when it comes to the supernatural. And so it's
no different when it comes to angels. You can go back, you
remember, I mean, I'm trying to think about movies. What's
that one? I forget the fella's name. He
was a real old fella when he died. He played old God or something
like that. It was pretty much blasphemous
against God. But anyway, just people are fascinated
with those kinds of things. And so they kind of tend to watch
movies and things along those lines. They're just fascinated
by that. But let me say, there's good angels in the Bible, but
there's also bad angels as well. And so people get fascinated
with bad angels as well as they do good angels. So I wanna take
the next little while here this morning, this evening, should
I say, and of course it's been a short day for me, right? But
I wanna give you some things out of the Bible about angels.
Some people have been taught some things down through the
years about angels. And so what I wanna do is I wanna
talk about angels and maybe some of the things that you've been
taught or that you've grown up to believe is not actually factual
according to the Bible. So we're gonna look at just a
few things here. So first of all, Let's look at the reality
of angels. Let's look at the fact that angels
are real. Angels are told in the Bible. In Acts chapter 23
and verse number 8, the Bible said, So you've got the Sadducees and
you've got the Pharisees. And according to the Bible, the
Sadducees, they didn't believe in angels or spirits. But now
the Pharisees, they believed in both. And then you've got
the Herodians, which were just a political bunch of group of
people anyway. But in the Bible times, angels
were denied as well, just like they are today. A lot of people
deny angels today in their existence as well. But there is a Sadduceeism
that's going on today that says that angels do not exist. And
some believe angels, they believe that this thing is traced back
to the days that when Israel was in captivity in Babylon,
and that's where they get the myth about angels, where it comes
from. But you'll remember, I think
they call it the Talmud. I think it's the Talmud and that's
where they get some of that weird stuff and those beliefs come
from, the Jews get those beliefs from as well, is because they
were in Babylon for a while and they got some of those myths.
Now this is why God gave you and I a Bible. so we can know
that angels exist. When somebody comes along and
they say, angels are not real and angels don't exist, then
you've got a Bible and God shows you that angels do exist. And
so if the Bible says it, then you and I believe it, no matter
what the world's library might have to say on the subject, the
Bible says that angels are real. And so we're gonna take the Bible's
word. Now, what about the mention of angels in the Bible before
the Jews came in contact with them? I mean, the Bible talks
about angels early on, even before Jews ever came on the scene.
Even before you and I came on the scene, before man came on
the scene, angels existed. I'll show you that here in just
a little bit, in just a little while. Now, we have the proof
of the infallible Word of God when it comes to the existence
of angels. As I said, the word angel or angels is mentioned
297 times in the Bible, and that seems like a lot of times to
talk about something that doesn't exist. We also have the words
of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Matthew chapter number 26
and verse number 53, Jesus said, Now they say that a legion of
angels can be anywhere from upwards to a thousand angels. Now if
that's the case, then 12 legions would be 12,000 angels. That's a lot of angels for the
Lord to call upon if they don't exist, if you ask me. In Luke
chapter 15 and verse number 10, the Bible said, Likewise I say
unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God
over one sinner that repenteth. So he says angels, plural. So
Jesus Christ, by his own mouth, by his own word, proves that
angels exist in John 1 verse 51. And he said unto him, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven opened, and
the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.
So you've got angels in the Bible that's connected with Jesus Christ.
I don't know how you can believe the Bible and deny the existence
of angels. It's impossible. But they argue
that Jesus was conforming to the current beliefs of his day.
Now this is the foolishness of people and how they believe this
thing. They believe that Jesus Christ was just conforming to
the beliefs of his day. But what they're saying is that
Jesus Christ was lying just to get along with the world. When
you believe that, you believe Jesus Christ was just trying
to conform to the world to get along with the world. Now, if
you will, come back to chapter number one, Hebrews chapter number
one. There are so many passages about
angels in the Bible, we're only gonna scratch the surface tonight.
And so I'm not even gonna try to exhaust the subject, there's
just no way you can do it in one service. So I'm gonna give
you about 25 minutes, 30 minutes worth of things from the Word
of God to help to strengthen your faith in the fact that angels
are real, that angels do exist because There is the reality
of angels, it's told in the Word of God. In Hebrews chapter one,
look with me if you will, in verse number four, the Bible
said, being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by
inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. So notice it
says, as he hath obtained, excuse me, hath by inheritance obtained,
that he is Jesus Christ. And so he is made so much better
than the angels. After his resurrection, Jesus
Christ, he was made a little lower than the angels when he
became man, when he put on the flesh. But then after his resurrection,
he became better than the angels. So there's a false teaching.
Some believe that when a believer dies or when a child dies, they
become an angel. You know, you've seen it probably.
You've seen Facebook posts and stuff like that. Well, they got
their wings and all that stuff. No, no, no, no. They didn't get
wings. You and I, we don't have wings. We get a body like Jesus
Christ. We don't get a body like angels. And then even the angels
they're referring to don't even have wings. You know, cherubims
and seraphims have wings, so if you really wanna get technical
in the Bible about the thing there, so they didn't get their
wings or anything like that. But if you're using it figuratively,
then I understand that. But some teach that when believers
or children die, they become angels. But in creation, man
is made a little lower than the angels. Hop over to chapter two,
verse number nine. The Bible says in chapter two
of the book of Hebrews, chapter nine, but we see Jesus who was
made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death.
When was Jesus made a little lower than the angels? When he
put on flesh, when he became like man, right? It says that
he was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering
of death, crowned with glory and honor, that he by the grace
of God should taste death for every man. So Jesus Christ was
made a little lower than the angels, and why was that? That's
because he put on this flesh, and he was made a little lower
than the angels. So when you die as a believer, you don't
become an angel, because an angel would be lower than what you
are. See, when you got saved, when you die, you are redeemed
and you become something greater than the angels themselves. So
in redemption, man is not equal with angels, but through Jesus
Christ, we're higher than the angels will ever be. Number two,
first of all, we talked about the angels and their reality
that they exist, but then also number two, let's look at their
creation. Now, there's no scripture that I know of that proves when
angels were created. I couldn't tell you that. I couldn't
tell you that at all. But I do bring up the thing about their
creation is told. There is a time when they were
created. In Genesis 1-1, the Bible says, In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth. But I can't tell you at
what point the angels were created. I just know Genesis 1-1. But
one thing is for sure, the Bible teaches that angels were created.
If you will, come over to your left, just a few books to the
book of Colossians, chapter number one. Colossians chapter number
one. Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians,
and Colossians. Colossians chapter number one.
And then look with me, if you will, beginning in verse number
15, verse 15 through 17. Verse 14, it's referring to Jesus
Christ in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness
of sins. Verse 15, who, Jesus Christ,
is the image of God, is the image of the invisible God. What's
that mean? Well, if you want to see God, the way you see God
is you see Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the embodiment
of God. No man has seen God. God's the
Spirit, and no man has seen God at any time and lived. But if
you want to see God, the way you see God is you see Jesus
Christ because He is the embodiment of God. Verse 16 says, "...for
by Him were all things created that are in heaven." See that,
all things? That would even include angels, wouldn't it? So, for
by Him, that means Jesus Christ created Him. Wow, that's another
thought. For by Him were all things created
that are in heaven and earth, that are in earth visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities
or powers. See, all that's that spiritual
presence. All things were created by Him and for Him, and He is
before all things, and by Him all things So we see that angels
were created. Angels wasn't just always here
like God was always here. There came a place, a time, and
a point where angels were created. Now, come back to Job 38, and
I think I'll give you a setting here that, you know, if you haven't
already heard this before, I think it'll kind of be interesting
to you. Job chapter number 38. You remember that Job, he was
spouting off at the mouth at one point, just making accusation
after accusation against God. And then once Job was done, now
God said, all right, Job, I want you to hush. Now it's my turn
to talk. And so God begins to speak. He
says in verse number one of chapter 38, then the Lord answered Job
out of the whirlwind and said, who is this that darkeneth counsel
by words without knowledge? He's like, Job, you're speaking
and you don't even know what you're talking about. You don't
even have the whole bigger picture of the thing. He says in verse
three, gird up now thy loins like a man for I will demand
of thee and answer thou me. He says, I want you to stand
before me and I want you to stand like a man because I'm about
ready to tell you some things that's gonna blow your mind and
show you how little you actually really know. So listen up, Job.
So then in verse four, he says, where was thou when I laid the
foundations of the earth? Job, where was you when I created
the earth? Where was you when I was in Genesis 1-1 and I created
all of this? Silence, crickets from Job. Job
couldn't say a word. He said, declare if thou hast
understanding. Job couldn't. Job didn't know
where he was at. Where were you and I when God
formed the earth and created the earth? I don't have no idea. I don't know where we were at.
Did we exist? I don't know how that thing works
out. All right, look at verse number five. Who hath laid the
measure thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line
upon it? Talking about the earth. Whereupon are the foundations
thereof fastened? And who laid the cornerstone
thereof? See Job, where was you at? Job, who did all of this?
Who created all this? Who took care of Genesis 1-1? And Job's there silent. Now look
at verse 7 carefully. When the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy. Now what's the setting
here? The setting is Genesis 1-1, isn't
it? It's when God created the earth. That's Genesis 1-1. And
notice it says in verse 7, when, when, when? Genesis 1.1, when
the morning stars, and this shows you the morning stars and the
sons of God are synonymous, when the morning stars sang together
and the sons of God shouted for joy, when God had created the
earth and he stretched the line upon it, when he had fastened
the foundation thereof, the morning stars, the angels were there
at that time that God created the earth. So it appears like
the angels were created prior to the earth being formed. Isn't
that something? And you find that there in Job
chapter 38 and verse number seven, when those morning stars and
the sons of God shouted for joy. So as God was creating the earth,
the angels were shouting. Isn't that something? See, that
gives you a little bit of an insight there. So the angels
were there. Now see, you and I as man wasn't
there. Adam wasn't there. He wasn't
created till much, much later in Genesis chapter number one
and chapter number two, then God formed man of the dust of
the ground. And so it was much later than that. All right, so
this shows that the morning stars and the sons of God are synonymous
and they're created beings. All right, come back to Matthew
chapter 22. Matthew chapter number 22, we're talking about their
creation. It's told there's some things about angels, they can
get pretty wild when you study this out. Like I said, we're
only gonna scratch the surface of this thing, but it can get
pretty wild there. All right, in Matthew chapter
22 in verse 30. Now let me say this, if you believe
the Bible, Now, if you don't believe the Bible and then you
just think that everything is kind of spiritualized and, well,
I know what the Bible says, but that's not really what it means.
If you're that kind of a Christian, then none of this really even
matters to you anyway because then anything goes. You can spiritualize
everything and nothing even matters. And nothing is even connected
to reality if you have that kind of a viewpoint. But we are Bible
believers. We believe the Word of God. So
if God said that angels exist, then we believe they exist. Now
in Matthew chapter 22, if you'll look with me, the story here,
starting in verse 23 and coming on down there, is that they tried
to trip the Lord up by using Moses against them. And if a
man gets married to a woman and the man dies, and the woman remarries,
and then he dies, and then so she remarries, and seven times
that happens, then in the resurrection, whose wife is she gonna be? Now,
that's kind of confusing, isn't it? I mean, whose wife? But up
in heaven, that's not how it's gonna be. We're not gonna be
husbands and wives up in heaven. It doesn't work that way. That's
down here on earth that we're husbands and wives. And so they
were just trying to trip the Lord up. But if you will, for
sake of time, jump down with me, if you will, to verse number
29. Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err not knowing the
Scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection
they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels
of God." Where? in heaven. So in the resurrection,
you and I go out of here, we are as the angels of God in heaven. Now we could do a comparison
of you and I compared to the angels of God in heaven and I
can draw some conclusions, but you would think I was a nut that
I wasn't screwed on the right boulder or something like that.
So we won't go down that alley right now, but I'll show you
some things concerning that sometime in the future. But it says in
heaven, angels do not marry in heaven like we do on earth. It
doesn't work that way. In heaven, angels don't die,
so they have no need to procreate. So when I say that angels are
all male, they don't die, so they have no need to procreate
whatsoever. So in heaven, angels do not marry
like we do. Now, this does not debunk the
fact that angels cannot procreate. Now let me just give a real long
pause of a quiet, silent type thing right there. And I'm gonna
show you something. If you will, come to Genesis
chapter number three. Genesis chapter three. And what'd he
say? He said that they're like the
angels where? They don't marry where? In heaven.
Didn't say anything about on the earth, said in heaven. Angels
don't procreate in heaven. All right, Genesis chapter number
three. You gotta watch the terminology
and the wording of the Bible very carefully or you'll draw
conclusions based upon your own interpretation of the scriptures.
But you gotta let the scriptures be the ones to determine the
interpretation of itself. In Genesis chapter number three,
look with me in verse number 15. God said, and I will put
enmity between thee and the woman. So God's talking to Satan, right?
And he said, I will put enmity between thee and the woman and
between thy seed and her seed. It shall bruise thy head and
thou shalt bruise his heel. Notice it says that I will put
enmity between thee and the woman and between whose seed? Thy seed. Satan has seed. Isn't that interesting? You ought to know that if you've
ever heard of Rosemary's baby. Hollywood's got some kind of twisted truth. They get that stuff from the
Bible. They just twist it a little bit. But here, Satan has seed.
He said, in between thy seed and her seed. You say, well,
a woman doesn't have seed. The man does. That's true, but
this is a prophetic passage. And it's talking about the virgin
birth of Mary. or Jesus Christ, and it's talking
about Mary. And that's what that's a reference to. And so Satan
has seed according to that verse. Come over to Genesis chapter
number six. Genesis chapter number six. I'll show you this again. While you're turning there, if
you're taking notes, you can write down Daniel chapter two and verses
42 through 43. And that's also another proof.
All right, Genesis chapter number six, verse number one. And it
came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth,
and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God. Now
those sons of God are angelic beings. They're not the sons
of Seth. Who was it? I think it was Jack Hiles who
taught that they were the sons of Seth. But the problem with
that is that these sons of God here, They taught that they were
almost like sinless and perfect. But look at verse number 12.
And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for
all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. There is no perfect
line of the godly line of Seth. Not at this time. It was all
corrupted. And so this is something else.
So verse two says that the sons of God saw the daughters of men
that they were fair, and they took them wives of all which
they chose. These angels took wives. Now
watch this in verse 3, And the Lord said, My spirit shall not
always strive with man, for that he has also flesh, yet his days
shall be an hundred and twenty years. Now there were giants
in the earth in those days. How? And also after that, when?
When the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and
they bare children to them, and the same became mighty men, which
were men of old, men of renown. That's what you would call Nephilim.
And what happens is these angels came in under the daughters of
men, and they had children by them. Now, that's on earth. Can't
happen in heaven. That's what the Bible said. We
already read that. It doesn't happen. They marry, neither are
given in marriage in heaven. But now on earth, it's a different
story. Here we find that these giants
came about, and it could be where a lot of that Greek mythology
comes from. You know, half man and half angel. Isn't that something
else the people are kind of fascinated with? Superman, half-angel, half-man,
Spider-Man, half-angel, half-man, Iron Man, half-man, half-angel. I mean, you could go on and on
with the things that are half-angel and half-man in the day that
you and I live in. Where did that stuff come from?
Well, it goes all back to the Bible. If you take an angel that
marries a human being and has children, then those offspring
are gonna, the angel's gonna be grounded. But then it's gonna
be a superhuman being at the same time. That's some wild stuff,
isn't it? It definitely is. But that's
where those giants came from. There were giants in the earth
in those days, and also after that when the sons of God came
in under the daughters of men. So that's an interesting thing
there. So we see that angels can procreate on the earth, on
the earth. Now, let me move on here. I'm
gonna spend all my time on this. There are ranks among angels.
If you'll come to Ephesians chapter number one, You kinda get the
sense that there's ranks. If I had time, I'd take you through
the book of Daniel, and I could show you that as well, but there's
ranks among the angels. Now, in Ephesians chapter number
one, And verse number 20, I know when you hear about angels, you're
thinking that they've got this white robe on, and they've got
a halo around their head, and they got their wings, and they're
floating around on a cloud, and that's your picture of angels,
but you don't find that in the Bible. You don't find that in
the Bible. That's not in the Word of God. Excuse me, it's
not in the Word of God. All right, Ephesians chapter
number one and verse number 20, it says, which he wrought in
Christ when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own
right hand in the heavenly places Far above all principality and
power and might and dominion. And every name that is named,
not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. So you've got principality and
powers and might and dominion. That shows you there's ranks
even in the spiritual realm, there's ranks. Just like on the
earth, you've got ranks and things. Starts with the president. And
he's our commander in chief. And then you go all the way down
through that thing. I think we've got our secretary of defense
is in the hospital right now. I think he went in the hospital
today, actually. I think I saw something on that. And so you've
got different ranks. You know, you've got the vice
president and you go on down through that thing, secretary
of state and all. And so you've got ranks on the earth, but then
you also have ranks in the spiritual realm as well. There's ranks.
Come over to Colossians. That's to your right. Just a
couple of books. Colossians chapter one. Now, the book of Ephesians
and the book of Colossians has a lot of the same verbiage in
writing, some of the same message there. It's very, very similar
when you study the two. Colossians 1, verse number 15
says, who is the image of the invisible God? Now, it's not
asking a question, it's saying who, as in Jesus Christ, because
in verse 14, again, in whom we have redemption through his blood.
So he says, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn
of every creature? For by him were all things created
that are in heaven and that are in earth visible And what's that?
Invisible. So there's things that are invisible.
I wonder if God rolled back the scales from our eyes and we could
see the spiritual realm, wonder how we'd respond. We probably
wouldn't be worried about the Super Bowl right now, would we?
We'd probably be worried about things far greater. I don't know,
I'm just speculating. Maybe we wouldn't. He says, and
that are in earth visible and invisible, whether they be thrones.
So there's thrones in the visible and there's thrones in the invisible.
He says, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created
by Him. See, all things were created
by who? Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was there in Genesis
1-1. He was there that day. You had
Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and you had God the Father. They were
all three there at that day, and I've showed you that in the
past before. And so what you have is you have ranks among
the angels. Now, one of the things you have
is you have what's called archangels. Archangels. Now you got Michael.
Michael is an archangel. According to Daniel chapter 12
in verse number one, then Michael, he stands for Israel. Michael
is the one that goes to bat for Israel. He's watching over Israel.
I believe even right now, he's watching over Israel. I believe
he's over Israel. I believe that each region has
their angel that's over them. Again, if I could go back to
Daniel, I'd show you this, but I don't have time for that, but
I could show you some of those things. But Michael is said to
be an archangel. In Daniel chapter 12, verse number
1, he's the prince working on the behalf of the remnant of
Israel. In Jude chapter 9, he's contending with Satan for the
body of Moses. This is Michael, the archangel.
Then in Revelation chapter 12, he's the victorious leader of
the heavenly host, warring against Satan and his angels. So you
see all kinds of wild stuff that goes on when it comes to the
realm of angels. In 1 Thessalonians 4 and verse
number 17, I believe that it'll be Michael's voice that you will
hear when the Lord comes back for the church. Why? Because
Michael stands for Israel, Daniel chapter 12 verse 1. And if he
stands for Israel as the church is going out of here, guess what
happens after the church goes out of here? the tribulation
period. So as the church is going out,
Michael, the archangel, is coming down for Israel during the tribulation
period. Now, so you have Michael, but
then you also have this fellow by the name of Gabriel. Now,
Gabriel in the Bible is never, ever, ever called an archangel.
He's not called an archangel. Gabriel, his name means the mighty
one. Now, he's the one that announced
to Daniel that his prayer had been heard, Daniel 9 verse 21
through 23. He's the one that announced the
virgin birth of the Son of God in Luke chapter 1 verse 26 through
38. You see archangels are considered some of the most highest ranked
in all the angel rankings, if you will. But then you not only
have archangels, but you have cherubim. Now they're connected
with the throne of God when you study them out. Again, that's
a whole other study. A lot of time on each one of these here
and talking about these things, which we're not gonna do tonight.
I just wanna give them to you in general, but the cherubim is
connected with the throne of God. They're also in connection
with worship in the book of Revelation, as we've studied the book of
Revelation. They have four faces, and we won't turn there, but
I'll give you the reference, Ezekiel 10, and verses 8 through
22. They have four faces. And then
they also have four wings. Cherubims have four wings. Now,
angels don't have wings. Cherubims have wings, and they
not only have two, but they have four. All right, so then you've
got these cherubim. Now, you also not only have cherubim,
but you also have seraphim. Now, seraphim, you'll find that
in Isaiah 6, verses 1 through 6. And when you study that, you
find they not only have four wings, but seraphim have six
wings. So they got more wings. I don't
know the reason for the differences in all of that. Angels don't
have wings. Cherubim have four wings. Seraphim
have six wings. There's some of the differences
there. I can't explain all of this. I just know that's what
the Bible says. Remember God used cherubim in
the garden? Remember when he kicked Adam
and Eve out of the garden, he put a cherubim there to protect
it and then a flaming sword to turn every which way? For some
reason, God used cherubim in that case right there, okay?
So their creation is told, all right? Then number three, their
bodies are told. It's been asked before, do angels
have bodies? Now, in Hebrews chapter number
one, I'm gonna turn there, verse number 14. Hebrews chapter one
and verse number 14. That's a good question, does
angels have bodies? In Hebrews 1 and verse number 14, the Bible
said, Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister
for them who shall be heirs of salvation? He's talking about
angels in verse 13. But to which of the angels said
he at any time? So he's talking about angels
in verse number 14 and he says they're ministering spirits.
Angels are spirits in the Bible. So does a spirit have a body? But the problem is the Bible
shows us that angels have appeared in visual form. So we have a
problem, don't we? So angels are a spirit. You can't
see a spirit, but then they show up and they appear in a bodily
form at the same time. So what are you going to do with
that? It's pretty heavy, isn't it? Pretty heavy. But really,
it's really not all that heavy. It's a pretty simple, basic 101
angel in the Bible. So the problem is the Bible shows
us that angels have appeared in visual form. They show up
in a male human body. But in chapter 13 and verse 2
of our text, he said, It's almost like what we're doing is we're
entertaining angels. They're watching and they're
seeing things, and so be careful. You might be entertaining an
angel. That thing, what was it, Michael Landon, and what was
that thing, Highway to Heaven, is that what it was called? And
he was that angel, and he was traveling, but nobody knew he
was an angel, and they come along, and maybe they helped him out.
Well, you never know how that person that you're helping out
just might be somebody God has sent in your way to test your
heart. You just never know, and it might be an angel. I don't
know. There's some of those things that come up, and you can't refute
them, you know, and so you just, you know, but you can't really
fully prove it either. So this verse tells us that angels
are entertained by someone. Now, here's a thought. It seems
angels have the ability to appear in human form at will. They can
travel faster than the speed of light, and they can also come
and go without being noticed by anyone. Now, the question,
do angels have a permanent body? Well, Luke 24, verse 39 says,
Jesus said this, "...a spirit hath not flesh and bones as you
see me have." So it appears like angels don't have flesh and bone
because that's what the Lord is saying in Luke 24, 39. So
what kind of body do they have? Well, in 1 Corinthians 15 and
verse 40, I think that's where we'll find our answer. In 1 Corinthians
15 and verse 40, Paul says this, there are also celestial bodies
and bodies terrestrial, but the glory of the celestial is one
and the glory of the terrestrial is another. So celestial means
heavenly body. It means heavenly. So it would
be a heavenly body. Then the terrestrial body would
mean it's an earthly body. So there's two types of body.
There's the celestial and then there's the terrestrial. You'll
remember years ago the movie E.T. I don't know, maybe they
did a remake of it here recently. It seems to me like they did.
But anyway, you got E.T. What's E.T. stand for? It stands
for extraterrestrial. Extraterrestrial. So you've got
terrestrial, which means an earthly body, but then extra means outside. So, like, extra-biblical would
be outside of the Bible. So you've got extraterrestrial
would be outside of the human form, outside the human body.
And so the celestial bodies would be the angels' bodies, and terrestrial
bodies would be bodies like what you and I have right now. And
that's what a terrestrial body is. Now let's look at a Christ-like
body. This will give us a clue and
a sense of some things here. Come to John chapter number 20.
We're just about done. John chapter number 20. And I'll read just a few verses out
of here. And I wanna make a couple of points that I think would
be interesting to you. In John chapter number 20, look
with me in verse number, jump down to verse number 11. John
chapter 20 verse number 11 says, But Mary stood without at the
sepulchre weeping. And as she wept, she stooped
down and looked into the sepulchre, and seeth two angels in white
sitting, the one at the head and the other at the feet, where
the body of Jesus had lain. I like that word had, don't you?
That means he's not there. And they say unto her, Woman,
why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because
they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have
laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back
and saw Jesus standing and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus
at that point had not revealed. He appeared as an angel, but
He had not revealed to her that He was Jesus Christ. He hid Himself
from her even though she could see the angel. She didn't recognize
that it was Jesus Christ because He didn't reveal it to her, but
He eventually will. Watch verse number 15. And Jesus saith unto her, Mary.
And she turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni, which is to
say, Master. Now he revealed himself to her.
See, he was in angel form, she thought he was just a gardener,
and just in angel form there, but then he revealed himself
to her, and then she said, Master. And verse 17 says, Jesus saith
unto her, Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my father,
but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my father
and your father, and to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene
came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord and that
He had spoken these things unto her. Now this is an interesting
story. I don't know how much you guys have dissected it down
through the years and things like that as you've been saved,
but this is an interesting story because here Jesus Christ, He
reveals Himself to Mary and He says, touch me not. Why? He said,
because I have not yet ascended to the Father. Now watch the
rest of the story, how it unfolds. Jump down to verse number 24.
But Thomas, one of the twelve called Didymus, was not with
them when Jesus came. And then jump down to verse number
26. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and
Thomas with them. Then came Jesus, the doors being
shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be unto you.
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold
my hands. and reach hither thy hand, and
thrust it into my side, and be not faithless, but believing."
And then, of course, Thomas said in verse number 28, Now that's
interesting because here when you read verse number 17, Jesus
reveals himself to Mary and says, don't touch me. Why? Because
I've not yet ascended to the Father. But then when it comes
to Thomas, Jesus says, touch me, see that it's me. And then
in another place he says, see that it's me. He said, a spirit
doesn't have flesh and bones as you see me have. Now why could
Thomas touch him and not Mary? I think the difference is verse
number 26. I believe what happened is the
Lord went up to heaven, and then within eight days the Lord came
back, and now he can be touched, but he couldn't be touched until
he had sent it back to the Father. Why? Because if the Bible's correct,
and the Old Testament, the tabernacle, and the priesthood, and all of
that is a type and a picture of what goes on up in the heavenlies,
then you couldn't have anybody touching Jesus Christ until he
had sprinkled the blood on the mercy seat seven times. And so
you had the Lord ascending up to heaven, and then once He came
back. But the point that I want to draw out of the passage is,
is the Lord went to the throne of God and back in eight days. Try that with your little, what
do they call it, that little Hubble. Try that with the Hubble
for NASA. You know, they can't even make
it to the moon and back in that amount of time, I don't think.
So here you have in the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, he
went up to heaven and came back within eight days. That's an
interesting thing. Now, if you and I are getting
a body like the Lord Jesus Christ's body, that's pretty fast, isn't
it? That's moving pretty quick. So that's pretty interesting
if you ask me. And so one school of thought is that the blood
had not been applied to the mercy seat up in heaven. All right,
now, how long would it take? going as fast as we could today
to get to the end of our universe. Because that's typically where,
that's basically where the Lord went to when He went up to the
throne of God. He went to the end of the universe. How long
would that take? I mean, you and I going as fast
as we could in whatever, I don't know, I mean, trillions and trillions
and trillions of light years. I mean, it just would take...
I mean, there's no way. You and I, I mean, we would decay
and the mechanism that we use to get there would decay before
you could even get there. So I don't really know the answer,
but I imagine it's more than just a light year. It's many
more light years. Now, we know that Jesus Christ
went back to heaven and came back to the earth in less than
eight days in His body, according to verse number 26. And His heavenly
body must have been moving very, very fast. Now, that's kind of
like think it and you're there kind of thing. I mean, that's
astounding. See, don't get discouraged. Maybe
the point that ought to draw out of this thing here is that
the body that you're in right now might be failing you and
it might be letting you down, but one day you're gonna get
a body that's gonna be faster than a speeding bullet. It'll
be able to do better than leap tall buildings in a single bound.
You'll be able to leap planets in a single bound in your heavenly
body. And so the body is told as well. And then last of all, and this
is real quick, their home is told. Where do angels abide?
Well, they abide in heavenly places. That's Ephesians chapter
3 and verse number 10. He said, in heavenly places might be known
by the church to the manifold wisdom of God." So those principalities
and powers, those angels and all of that, they dwell in heavenly
places. We can't see them. We can't see
them. But we know they're there. Why? Because the Bible tells
us they're there. So tonight that's just a little
bit about angels.
