Understanding eschatology means that we must understand context first and foremost.
Verse 27 of Daniel 9 refers to the abomination of desolation (Matthew 24:15, Mark 13:14) which takes place at the halfway point of the seven year tribulation. This event points to 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 as the son of perdition sits in the temple of God showing himself as God (2 Thessalonians 2:3). All of this seems to focus upon the time when Satan is cast out of heaven in Revelation chapter 12. The Bible says that the saints of the most High are given into the hand of the beast for a “time and times and the dividing of time”—3½ years.
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
The saints are given into his hand for 3 ½ years or one-half of the tribulation. This would match the events described in Revelation chapter 12 when Satan is cast out of heaven after the war in heaven with Michael the Archangel. Understanding Michael’s part in the future remains the key here in Daniel, Revelation and also 2 Thessalonians chapter 2. When Satan is cast to earth, he is going to take out his wrath upon the nation of Israel. Revelation chapter 12 points to Satan’s wrath being poured out upon “the woman” with no mention of the church! This one fact completely debunks the pre-wrath position because the church is missing during this persecution which equates to ½ of the tribulation. The pre-wrath position points to a rapture just prior to the Second Coming at the beginning of the Day of the Lord.
