Out of genuine concern, Naomi offered to make the journey to Judah alone. Orpah returned home, but Ruth insisted on accompanying Naomi. There is no hint of any reason God may have treated Naomi harshly. The absence of any explanation was no doubt designed to create tension in original readers as they awaited clarification and resolution.
